Interesting. Guess I never noticed that because I either never used Pet Pal or always fought Hannag.
Also, I think (always pays to save, just in case) Pet Pal is only removed from the character that actually speaks with her, and only if they had it prior to speaking with her. So you could speak to her with a different party member, or unspec Pet Pal from the character before speaking to her, then add it back afterwards.
