Still, there might be several reasons for crashing.
Depending on just how hard one pushes their system, sometimes these small additions of heatsinks can help tremendously. If you are blowing a fan in from the side (as I have done), then adding some heatsinks to the various components can help you remove the heat a little more quickly.
Which means also make sure you have good thermal tape as you said. I ended up using some arctic silver for those heatinks that end up hanging upside down, and sometimes 'zip ties' to secure the glued heat sinks into place, and double-sided thermal tape for the heatsinks that are sideways. Heatsinks that are resting flat, I use cpu thermal interface material (or cpu grease I guess) since those heatsinks won't fly around under regular gaming conditions!
Hahah that was my worst fear about them and by getting hit somwere in the face or worse 😂
