Console Modding : What would it take?
Hi y'all!

So the new Switch port got me excited for a bit of on-the-go playing, and it also got me thinking about modding games on consoles.

I'm guessing setting up the Steam Cloud Saves for the Switch version was already pretty challenging, and I'm now wondering about wether Larian would ever be able to do a Bethesda and manage to bring (at least some of) the modding features to the console version.

It would probably take creating a new mod repository-delivery platform, looking at Beth's Creation Club as a precedent. Preferably one that's more functionnal and isn't primarily aimed at monetizing the game forever, which I'm fairly confident Larian wouldn't do. Considering they managed the Steam Cloud Saves thing they might be able to haggle for Steam Workshop support but that seems really unlikely.

It would probably take negociating with constructors. Sony would probably be a prick about it. Microsoft would probably try and get Larian to do it through Twitch App or something (*cough*Minecraft*cough*). I'm not even sure Nintendo know what modding a game means, but considering how they've been opening up lately it might be doable.

What do you think it would take to see Modding come to the console versions of DOS2?

It depends on Microsoft and Sony if they will allow the game to be modded on their consoles.

I dont know about Switch tho..

They've already looked into mod support for console. Turned out to be a no-go for at least DOS2, but knowing that they've looked into it, gives some hope that the concept is at least on their radar, should the reason for the no-go be due to having to rework too much from scratch. However, if it's something to do with policies and bureaucracy among platforms, then it's a whole other matter.

TL;DR - It's fairly safe to say we won't see community driven mod support for DOS2.
