Any fix for this 2.5-year-old bug?
Lighting on High creates giant black blocks over most of the screen. Setting lighting to Medium, while boring, fixes the issue.

I found a post from 2017 with this exact issue and fix.

I have a GTX 1080. The problem ain't my hardware. I'm not far into the game yet, and now I'm wondering what other ancient, unfixed bugs might be lurking within. It's not encouraging.

In the nvidia Control Panel, check the Antialiasing - Transparency setting and if it is set to 8x (supersample), reset it to default.

Try resetting your graphics driver's 3D settings to default (right click an open area of the desktop to start the nvidia Control Panel).

In the graphics options, Lighting section, try disabling Light Shadows. A few people have reported black blocks covering all or most of the screen, (primarily) in the menu, character creation and the tutorial level, fixed by disabling light shadows (generally caused by the anti-aliasing setting mentioned above).
I'm not sure if the Lighting on High problem is related, but it is most likely a driver issue.

OK - testing one thing at a time, turning off driver-level global AA seems like it might have worked.

I was surprised to see Fane's character portrait is a blank black rectangle - I assumed this was part of that bug, but it seems like it is not. Does his (un)natural face really have no portrait....? It's a little jarring having this weird black rectangle in the corner of my screen.

That's a separate issue, unfortunately. I'm not sure what causes it, but my buddies and I had a similar issue.

Using the respec mirror and exiting should fix the portrait, once you have access (after Fort Joy, unless you use mods).

OK thanks, I'll try that once I can leave this furshlugginer island, which I seem to be compelled to investigate every grain of sand on x_x

Actually if you're still here - I've read that activating the "official" mods in the gift bag, that includes a mirror in Fort Joy, will disable achievements, is this true?Achievements are kind of a joke nowadays but it's still annoying to completely disable them on the first playthrough of a new game.

Excuse me... Can you help me? I have a graphical bug with clothes in Definitive Edition, i have the GOG version. Is it normal? Is it a problem with my hardware or Drivers??? It only happens in the definitive edition.
Thank you very much.

This is a known issue (answered in the discussion you started, as well), most noticeable in character creation.

That's... disappointing. Why on earth does an official expandion pack based on user mods disable achievements?
Raze_Larian Sep 7, 2019 @ 11:36pm
Mods can effect game balance, and on consoles it is a requirement that achievements be disabled if mods are enabled. Apparently this isn't a requirement on Steam, but the reasoning still stands.

PC games had achievements for years, whether or not they were moddable. This only became an issue after consoles tied achievements to in-game currency. I don't see why PC players have to yet again be punished for console limitations. More to the point, this is a bundle of mods that have been selected and vetted by the devs and "integrated into the game," according to the news release. So it's twice as silly. /sigh
