Can't keep Fane at Lunar Gate?
I've done all his quests up to this point. I killed Aeterna, I got him the faceripper and his mask, and we explored the orc temple and he saw how it looked like Eternal architecture but he still wants to leave my party.

Is it impossible to keep Fane at this point?

What does Fane say during the dialogue, and what is his attitude number with you? If you attempt to persuade a party member during that dialogue and fail, they will leave the party. But if you have completed his quests, there should be a non persuasion option to get him to stay

There were non persuasion options for Lohse and Sebille but not for Fane even though I've done as much of his quests as I can up to this point. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a non-persuasion option to make him stay, considering that.

Do you have the option to support him becoming Divine? That option might work, and it doesn't force you out of becoming Divine yourself

Try the persuasion option, but first go the the ship and respec all civil points into persuasion.

I have the option but isn't that lying? How is that going to effect things

About as well as you would expect when the powers of a god loom in front of you and your friend chooses to betray you. What you probably expect would happen is exactly what will happen.

Actually no. I've supported characters before and then they just up and refuse to become Divine in the end. In my experience it makes no difference. I had to do a very deliberate work around to have any companion actually want to be Divine. Besides that, you could also respec into persuasion and do it that way.
