strength based weapons Vs finesse weapons
I'm just about to finish the first act, and I've been told at the end of act one you can respec.
So I was wondering do finesse weapons stack up in terms of damage to strength based weapons later in the game. I understand that it has to do with the skills and paths you have take.

Personally, took Ifan and went for a melee warfare-necromancer (which I'm really enjoying), basically built him to go in and deal a lot of physical damage while keeping himself sustained.

P.s. if youv'e got any times i'd be happy to hear (its my first playthrough)

Finesse weapons can compete with str weapons.daggers can do more consistant burst damage with backstabs, and bows/xbows will do more damage when on higher ground, and spears have a longer range than str weapons.

The obvious differences, which you are aware of, are Dagger being a requirement for Scoundrel skills and Bow/Crossbow being a requirement for Hunstmen damage skills. Warefare works for any melee weapon, regardless if it's a Finesse, Str or Int.

Spear and Twohand sword seem to have the same base damage.

Truly the difference comes down to the kind of gear you want to wear. Str gear has higher Physical Armor than Magic Armor. Finesse gear has equal of both. Int gear has higher Magical Armor.

However in Arx, the final act and most likely shortly before you beat the game, there is gear with +7 str. There are no Fin or Int equivalents.

My personal preference is Finesse. If Twohanding the Spear is very handy. If dagger duel wielding you get free crits meaning you can put the rest of your points into Con (or Int if you are also magic user) instead of Wits.

They're pretty much comparable in terms of overall damage output, at least for 2-handers. From there it's a trade-off between the secondary benefits, since stat requirements for armor types are extremely easy to meet.
Going finesse (even if its spears and warfare) gives you access to a nicely scaling Chroloform skill which is super useful.
