If you have some experience with rpgs and don't hate a challenge without min/maxing TOO much, Classic. If you are new to the genre don't be shy to choose Explorer.

Oké, then I will start with Classic Mode. Thanks for the answer Yaldabaoth!

Honour mode if you want to dive deep into the game and be under the constant threat of doom if you should fail. Just know where your quick save and quick load keybinds are located.

Classic or Tactician if you want a casual experience.

Explorer if you want to play it like an interactive movie.

Tactical ofc. Game is pretty easy if you not like shooter games(if you not dumb AF) Anyone who can at least read and calculate can beat this game on tactic. And people still create and ask for mods that can lower difficulty. I just lost faith in humanity

I'm new to the serie. So an simple question like this has nothing to do with difficulty. Just wondering which mode is the best for an beginner.

Some people don't want a hard game but just have fun and follow the story. It's not a weird request imo.

Classic is fun and gives more than enough challenge :)

Jesus! Why does the very first part of starting this game have to be so difficult?? Why can't the developers just put in a tool tip to explain the difficulties??

I don't know, but whoever cooked up the difficulty curve for this game must have been genuinely retarded.

Stop trolling. You cant read something that isnt present...

If you pick any difficulty except "Tactician" you can change the difficulty while playing. Even in the midst of combat.
I'd say go "Explorer" if you are new and adjust up or down when needed or you feel like it.
If you ever "switch" to Tactician, you will no longer be able to adjest the difficulty after that.

The game tells you tho what every mode is. So what is your point?

Tactic and Honor mode, btw, are the same
u have 1 save, but u still able to savesquming loot, traders, u could press F8 just before ur dead to load before fight, etc.
dont see any reasons to play Honor Mode

Here is a complete breakdown of the differences of each mode (to the best of my knowledge, someone correct me if I have this wrong):

STORY MODE:
- The player gets +80% HP & +30% boost to Chances to Hit.
- NPCs get -50% HP & -25% penalty to Chances to Hit.
- Regular creatures don't have any crowd control spells (Charm, Mute, Freeze, Petrify etc.): only bosses have them.
- Can switch up to Explorer Mode

EXPLORER MODE:
- The player gets +15% HP.
- Creatures have all of their regular spells.
- Can switch down to Story Mode, or up to Classic Mode.

CLASSIC MODE:
- NPCs get +20% HP.
- Most creatures in the game have additional or enhanced skills & abilities, including bosses.
- Can switch down to Explorer Mode.

TACTICIAN MODE:
- NPCs get +20% HP.
- Most creatures in the game have additional or enhanced skills & abilities, including bosses.
- Honor Mode can not be changed once selected.
- The user has only 1 save slot, so every time they save / quicksave / autosave, the savegame is overwritten. If a character dies (PC, companion, henchman) the game autosaves. If the whole party dies, the game cannot be recovered
- Supposedly drops better loot
