Talking to Griff...
(Lots of spoilers so won't even bother. If you haven't gotten off Fort Joy, don't continue reading.)

So following Sebille's questline, I killed (well, Sebille did, but hey) Stingtail (after The Prince talked to him) and got Griff's oranges off him.
Returning to Griff, Sebille wanted to talk to him first. Remembering what happened last time (i.e - a dead Lizard) and not wanting to kill Griff, yet (while I still had to free that elf), I didn't let Sebille talk to him first and completed the elf-freeing quest.

After that, I tried talking to Griff again, expecting Sebille to bud-in again and give her her turn, but that didn't happen - the normal conversation just followed, where he offers you his wares...

Did I ♥♥♥♥ something up? The next step in Sebille's quest is talking to Griff, but she refuses to do so. Even if I switch to her, talking to Griff just results in his normal banter...

Did you try controlling Sebille and talking to Griff with her?

Yup, allowing companions to converse seems like a one-time thing (not that it completely stops quest from progressing, but its trail will be harder to find during blind playthtough).

What's the harm if she guts the addict anyway?

Dunno... I have nothing against her killing him, just didn't want to at the time...
Oh well...
They should make it so you can stop companions from talking to someone the first time you encounter the NPC with them and from then on, if there's some special dialogue - to just be accessible when you switch to that character... Easy.

As a rule of thumb, I alway sjust let them talk to whoever. Granted, I'm only in Act 2, but so far the only one that bit me in the ass was when Sebille killed the lizard in Joy. Granted, I no longer have her in my party :)

Oh come now, Sebille is an assassin but not an idiot, she wouldn't kill Griff in his own turf, where you can get attacked.

I am playing coop, and we went to Griff, to give him the oranges, to get the elf out. But he wants us to give up Stingtail. We don't want to (we want to be "hero tagged"), but if we don't, he and his gang attacks us, and they WIPE the floor with us (we are lvl 3). Wish we could help the elf without getting murdered and being forced to kill so many people.

Always allow your companions to talk to their quest related npcs, nothing breakable will happen on acts1/2, the only exception would be (Act 2 spoiler) When talking to Hannag, refrain from killing her if Ifan asks to, so you may learn from her as a source master

This won't get you the tag, but you can position three of your guys near Stingtail while the fourth gives him up to Griff. An assassin will attack Stingtail promptly, but you can fight her off and Griff still holds up his end of the bargain. That's the *least* violent way of getting Amyro out and keeping Stingtail alive.

I wish I could remember, I thought we got the hero tag for not giving up Stingtail, but I guess not.

It can contribute to earning you the tag if you refuse to give Stingtail up, but you'll be forced into that fight. I meant that my method of avoiding violence won't contribute to you earning the tag.

It seems like you only get one shot, unfortunately. It would be REALLY nice if Larian had given you a "Wait, give me a few minutes..." option when your followers want to butt in just in case you're on the verge of making a mistake. Then again, that might displease the hardcore "decisions matter" crowd.

For Act 1, have to be careful with Sebille regardless of whether you're playing as her or she is your follower. Such a pain in the arse!

*Sebille as Follower:
1. She will kill Stingtail. If you want to proceed with the Sebille storyline, try to complete the Prince's business with Stingtail first. Make sure Sebille is standing far away.
2. She will not kill Griff.
3. She will not fight Zaleskar.

*Sebille as Player:
1. I believe you have the decision to not kill Stingtail. Can't recall if this is a persuasion check.
2. Same with Griff. Can't recall if this is a persuasion check or not.
3. This is definitely a persuasion check. Be sure to complete Ifan's portion first, which is Master Borris (talk to him or kill him and obtain his letter) then Zaleskar in case you do fail the roll.

Not talking to Griff on Sebille's behalf seems to have pretty much locked out progress on her personal quest. I know she's supposed to talk to Zeleskar next and I've gotten to him, but they outright refuse to engage in any sort o conversation beyond the cut-and-dry "trader's banter"...
I'm now a fair way ahead, having reached the Hideout, though honestly wouldn't mind starting over (or finding a save prior to the "Griff incident") if it's proves absolutely impossible to pick up her quest at any later point...

Just kill him - easier than restarting.
