How do you get the ship to move

I did it easily because I was an elf but my undead can't read the book I got an elf and she can't either what do I do

Chat with all the critters on the ship? I always do, don't know if that was a factor. I've done it with a custom undead, for reference, so I'm just trying to recreate what I did.

I did it as ifan, went down spoke to prisoner treating alex, she mentioned something about the book iirc. went to room got book, spoke to cat who tells you about singing to the boat from book, went to deck and you click on the maidenhead of ship to start the dialogue and boom ships a movin

I have done both, I have no more dialogue with th eprisoner and the cat.

There's a journal on 1 of the dead magisters (I think - I'm not 100% sure it was on a dead corpse but I think it was, I just know I found it somewhere) that tells you a password to the door in the ship if you read it (you do need to actually read it though, not just have it in inventory), but first you need to activate the door. Talk to Alexandar and pick all the options and you should get a gem that lets you activate the door (if you can't persuade the magister beside him you'll have to kill her), and once it's activated you can say the password and the door opens.

Inside that room there should be a book/note/something that tells you the song/whatever you need to finish the quest (talk to the ship to finish it).

There are no talents/racial requirements etc. to do any of this afaik.
