Skipping Source Vampirism?
Without any major spoilers (minor okay), how badly will I screw myself over if I don't do the ritual a second time to learn Source Vampirism?

My current character is very much against sucking the life out of the living for power, and not really that keen on the whole divinity thing to begin with. So he's turned down every bit of training from source users that involved doing that. (Still managed to get the extra two source points anyway, since the Elf & Succubus methods didn't bother him)

Anyway if I do the ritual a second time there's no way to turn down my god forcing me to learn/use vampirsm. The whole situation and his god are annoying him at this point. But I get stuck in the Hall of Echoes with no way to say 'no' and leave.

Long story short, I have a save before that point, and its definately not a requirement keeping me from moving my ship to the next location if I want to skip it. So wondering if I'll break the story if I do, or if they actually took into consideration someone might do that.

Anyone know?

Are you really sure you can leave Driftwood without learning Source Vampirism? I believe you only became eligible to leave after learning it. You will find a lot of purging wands in the next act but you won't have easy access to a source vat anymore( not until you almost beat the game) meaning it will be quite annoying to use source abilities.

You would be screwed since every source ability requires source, and I'm not sure you can beat the game without becoming a master sourcerer. At the very least you'll miss out on a lot of quest XP and the major parts of the second island.

If you're against using source vampirism that shouldn't stop you from learning it, especially since I think you must learn it eventually.

Yup definately can leave. Got the option talking to Malady on the ship before I even learned the third source point. I think all I needed was to learn the location of the council.

You are super OK without it if you are not a noob.

I didn't use Source skills at all during the whole game coz some of them are Broken AF and when i used them - they ended battles with 1 button click. Last boss died from my mage from 1 click aswell, repeated that fight near 15 times already to kill things there with very many different ways.

So you don't loose anything, but only gain if you'r fine without them.

And you're also sure she lets you leave without learning Source Vampirism? I can't imagine she would( at least it wouldn't make sense from her perspective imo).
It does break a few encounters that require you to drain source from the enemies to kill them( if you don't have the wand) but you should be fine if you keep enough charges around. Unfortunately those encounters are in more or less mandatory to clear areas so you might have a hard time if you don't have enough left( although there are only two of those encounters iirc.).
I wouldn't recommend that choice(if it's possible that is) as it makes the game insanely more annoying.

I can't think of any place that requires it. Maybe the final dungeon? No idea.

There are also a bunch of purge wands in act 3.

The final dungeon does indeed have a few enemies that only die if you purge them.
The statues in Kemm's vault also need to be purged to die.

Yup Malady didn't care at all. Didn't ask about it. Any time I try and talk to her on the ship once she returns to it she gives me the option of moving on. And the game lets me if I take it.

If Amalia just taught me the ability and didn't force me to use it to leave, I wouldn't have had a problem. Instead the dialogue goes on about how I've awakened a hunger now that will only grow and how all life exists to be food for me. Yadda yadda mua ha ha.

In short she was being annoying and I didn't have the option to slap her or not play along. I did get the options to turn down lots of ways to get power getting to that point. But not that one. There's simply no way out of that realm without using it.

I think I'll skip it and see what happens. I'll keep a save at this point if I regret it.

If your character doesn't want to become Divine, why not leave them behind on a farm and 3 man the game? You could go and find interesting furniture and decorate a house until the world ends and you cease to exist! ;)

You sound exactly like my god. I know what you're up to Amaila.

You don't have to use it once you get it. You can always just return to soul jars. You can also just suck corpses and ghosts that are being mean to you.

I see. But, can you use the purge wands for that? Or, does it have to be vampirism?

I think I used a wand for the statues and it worked, I learned the skill and just never used it on people. :)
