Dark Dealings in the Black Pits, Paladin Thom Hardwin

So i'm at the point in the quest where I need to go and talk to the paladins. The thing is they get ambushed.

As I am playing a solo warrior, I can never save anyone in fights as the just get focused down, and the friendly AI is rather bad (he keeps focusing the toughest ennemy). So basicly I have to let him die and finish the fight alone.

It then says that I won't be able to get my reward from him and the quest then vanishes from my journal. Is there a way to get the reward elsewhere, like to a higher paladin authority?

You have a pure warrior? That's bad. No Hydro or Geo for armor renewal? You should not try only to heal Hardwin because he gets shackled (twice) if his physical armor is gone. So keep his armor up.

You are probably not on a custom char because he had the perfect skill for you, Dome of Protection.

So my only idea would be a respec on the Lady Vengeance, a quite expensive plan because of the necessary skillbooks. I don't think you get the reward from a different person.

BTW, after you cleared the Black Pits with Reimond, did you use the War Owl the paladin gave you? I did not first and the quest bugged out a bit. Send the owl and then warp to the bridgehead.

u dont need to use the owl, he even mentions the owl if u dont use it when u finish the quest and asks if u forgot about the owl or some crap like that.

The ambush was really strange when I did not use the owl. All Paladins were dead except Hardwin and I did not get the double xp you get when using the owl first. I also thought it was a bug that the quest disappeared totally from the journal, but that happens also with the use of the owl.

I did use the owl first, i got about 18k xp. But i'm a bit too far now so I won't reload, i'm a warrior/necro btw.
