Report a translation problem
You have to talk to Lovrik on the first floor, and say you're interested in something "extra" (or w/e it was) and either persuade or bribe him. After that he'll ask for 100 gold and give you a key in exchange. That key unlocks the door.
Unless you are the Red Prince or Undead, strip your gear barring a single item and proceed. When the 'surprise' happens, do not get violent: afterwards go downstairs and threaten (but not actually attack) Lovrik (nice XP ding) and then visit Lothar and check his table. Once you've left the area having picked up whatever you were missing, you'll get a nice fat XP bonus.
Or just kill them all and get the nice fat XP for... Killing them all.
Which is why I said the guides and most people are wrong.
You get 3k for intimidating Lorvik + 30k for finishing it, which is about twenty times what you get from just killing them. (I suspect this is one quest the nerf-bat missed, so hey-ho).
