"alternative" summons are:
Condor - Found in stonegarden, must pass persuasion check.
Black cat - Escape fort joy with the black cat following you
Dragonling - Arx dream portal... Only available for Red Prince (custom lizards may also be able to)
Summon Ifans Soul Wolf - Ifan zzz boring
Summon inner demon - From Jahan after killing the Advocate / maxed source points. (not actually a summon, more of a buff.)
^none of these are skill books.
Regular summons are:
Incarnate / infused incarnates
Totems
Bone Widow
Bone Totems
Oil blob
Fire Slug
Living Artillery

There are 3 things you can do with the Phoenix Egg.
1. Eat it to learn Phoenix Dive
2. Sell it for gold
3. Keep it in your inventory and at the end of the game, something extra happens at the end credits.

OP mark the above post as the answer. I can also confirm. Holding the egg through the whole game will hatch a baby Phoenix at the end of the game. You see it in the epilog scene on the lady vengeance. You also come across a Phoenix heart from the elven trial. Not sure if you need both for it to hatch, because I've always had both in each run.
