I'm a bit slumped about what to do with Rory, the rat loved by the turtle Betty. I can't talk to it because all it ever talks about is being hungry, and if I feed it it just eats several hundred times its weight in food and still keeps telling me it is hungry. How can I advance that quest?

The turtle actually hints at placing food near it, to draw the rat closer ;)

um, is this totally glitched, or am I stupid??........if I lay out a trail of food one piece at a
time by the time I get the next piece out of inventory and dropped the rat has already
run back to the starting point..........if I lay out a trail ahead of time he picks up the first
one and does nothing else cause it seems when I put them down in the stair area
they're actually on the ceiling and even I can't reach them to get them back,
I'd like the 7k experience from this quest but guess I'll have to forget about it, lol.....

Yes, I've done that, but as I said, the food I put on the stairs actually attaches
to the ceiling so the rat nor I can't get at it.......that's why I'm asking if it's
glitched???

ok, figured out a workaround for the food placed on the stairs attaching to the
ceiling instead. i had to THROW the food on the stairs rather than dropping it.
the rat then immediately registered the food and followed it to the turtle.

not glitched to my knowledge. You don't need a very extensive food trail...just 2- 3 placements. (use a party member with telekenisis if you need to retrieve to food stuck on the cieling).

If I'm honest I don't remember a stairs - but the food, either way doesn't need to be very close together. Take a pause..the rat will come to it from quite a distance. Hope this helps.

It's a cute, rewarding little side quest - try talking to the rat after!

Well the way the dialogue goes I thought the quest was about feeding the rat a piece of cheese, a piece of fruit and a piece of potato so that it becomes fat and cannot run away from the turtle and its sexual advances. Also the turtle complains it is slow, but casting haste on it doesn't solve the quest. Fix quick Larian.

I did 3 or 4 pieces from the turtle to the entrance of the cellar. The rat scurries around all over the cellar so you don't need to go as far as the stairs.

Try dropping the food trail then leave and return later.

This was SUPER buggy for me trying to make a trail, so I got fed up and just used the teleport bracers I found in Fort Joy and teleported the turtle to the rat :p

Found the quest sort of pointless. They got together and the pink heart aura happened, but then nothing.

Well, since you bumped this old thread, I guess I'll add that simply teleporting the rat to the turtle works, too.

About being pointless, I don't know. Each and every side-quest is pointless to some extent, and all of the ones involving animals are. They are just there to add a little flavor to the game, I guess.

It's still glitched. The rat won't go down the stairs.
You can still complete the quest using teleport though. Rory will survive the trip.

To people finding this now - I think teleport when the game first came out didn't cause damage. As it does now, teleporting Rory will kill him. However, if your game is bugged like mine was and you can't get him down those stupid stairs, just teleport the tortoise up to him instead of him down to her. Works just as well and she has enough health and armor to survive the trip.
