With Larian, it seems that nice guys may not finish last, but they certainly miss out. I guess there's a lesson there...
The lesson may simply be, as the old saying goes, that evil wins when good people do nothing. As such, being always nice to evil people, and allowing them to pass, should not pay as well as when taking action against evil. It also matters which actions one sees as good, evil, or as nice, of course.
I find it particularly interesting with the Dwarfen Queen. When you let her go will you only get loot but no XP. When you kill her instead will you get XP but no loot. I like to kill her, because her excuse is weak and comes across like she is gaslighting the player. I fell for it in my first play-through, being stupidly nice. I no longer accept it, decide against mercy and kill her, because her excuse is as wicked as that of any demon when one considers the magnitude of her role and of her failure, which would have been a massive atrocity, committed in the name of the Dwarfen Queen, if it was not for the player and I also find the XP more rewarding than the loot.
you get the option i met septa at fort joy.. then the crab asks you if you are her ally or not. and so on.. you can fight that crab and it will transorm. stong oponent. not boss like but still stong for a crab.
