Accidentally Attacking People, the floor, my friends...
Good lord, is there a way to disable this somehow?

I'll see a scenario where someone is getting bullied. They start fighting it out, and I jump in to defend the innocent by attacking the bully.

Battle rages and when it's over, the NPC starts to walk away. I click on the NPC to talk to him, maybe to figure out what the fight was about.. and I swing and attack him and start a battle, even though I'm no longer "in combat". All because the tiny little icon on my cursor was the sword icon instead of the standard "walk here" arrow.

It's ridiculous. I have accidentally attacked countless NPCs because of this. I have attacked the floor countless times. I have attacked my own teammates countless times. I am currently redoing a 15 minute battle because when it was over, I accidentally attacked the NPC. Am I missing something, an option to disable this?

Thanks for the insults, but I am not holding the control key. Appreciate that, really, makes for a great community.

I just saved the Dreamer lizard from being killed by Silence. As soon as Silence died, I was out of combat. I clicked on the Lizard to talk to him, and immediately attacked him. That's the problem. I wasn't holding Control. I have to right click on an empty part of the map to turn off attack mode. If I don't do this after combat ends, I end up attacking the first thing I click on, whether it's my friends, a barrel, an NPC, anything.

Also happened in Fort Joy when I saved the elf lady from getting bullied. Killed the bullies, clicked on her after they were dead to talk to her like I've done for every other NPC in the game, and I attacked her.

It's because your weapon is out (tab) or ctrl is used.

It's easy to notice anyway your cursor will be a sword and the circle red, you'll attack the area you click. If it's white then you click and walk.

That makes sense, it's gotta be because my weapon is out. Is there a way to put it away automatically after combat ends, or does everyone have to put it away manually after combat to prevent this?

There is nothing wrong with my keyboard and I'm not holding Control. Control isn't stuck. I'm able to type this whole message without Control being stuck, let alone play any other game in my library without Control being pushed accidentally.

But that perfectly explains the problem. When combat is done, my weapons are out, so the first thing I click on after combat, I attack - unless I specifcally right click somewhere to apparently sheathe my weapon.

I also don't find it particularly easy to notice, especially when the ground is on fire and my icon is a small red sword and I'm trying to click to get someone to move out of the way after a battle.

Yeah lol kinda funny, right?
Killed a bunch of people after an argument is fine but accidently hit someone or caught accidently stealing something and suddenly you're public enemy #1, including even the people with 100 attitude to you

Normally they holster weapon automatically after combat. Sometimes it doesn't happen I've had that too idk why. The you click and crit a npc and kill him lol.

Had to re do 1 or 2 fights because of it. I just automatically right click on clear ground after combat now to be safe. Been doing that since first few hours of playing.

Are you accidentally hitting 1?

You should right click on a blank part of the map before tapping on people or objects you don't want to hit, just to clear the force attack, which you seem to be triggering.

That actually explains nothing coz weapon auto hides after the battle. :d

Holding ctrl is ok for typings
. Holding tab - not. But if in other games you dont spam ctrl then watch settings if you changed anything there in a game section..

Weapons don't always get put away like they should after a fight.

That's exactly the problem I'm experiencing, but I'm seeing it after almost every fight, and I'm not pushing Control or Tab or anything like that after the fight is done. They aren't putting their weapons away so the next thing I click on, whether it's the ground, an item, or usually an NPC, they attack.

Mine do always *thinking*

Never seen that. Any idea why? Like, is there a common pattern, like enemies dying to ongoing damage on their turns or...?
