What's the 'correct' way to play?
I know, I know. 'There is no one correct way to play!'

But, what I'm asking is this. On my first playthrough right now, I'm Ifan. But I chose knight. However he's meant to be a Wayfarer based on his weapon in his origin and artwork.

Every other character I've met, I've allowed to be their base class.

So, how do I play? Do I remake a custom character, collect all my followers, and leave them to their classes? Or, do I play Ifan again as a crossbowman, and roleplay his...role, in the story.

I want to get the best experience from the game.

You could have every single character pretty much exactly the same if you wanted to. I like to have a nice balance, eventually getting rid of my Knight, replacing him with a Cleric. So I have 3 mages and a ranger. We're just attacking from a distance, and I found my Knight either took too long to get into battle, or was too injured to be healed.

Base classes do not really influence the story in any way, not that I know of, so you can be whatever you want or suit your playstyle.

Well ifan receives a crossbow as a reward and some such but i found that tags, races and origins have more dialog that classes ( I did not found any "class" dialog related in my playthrough), but maybe other people have.

Well this depends on who is in your current party, if you already have a mage or 2, or another fighter or 2 then change him to whatever you want, just bear in mind he will be behind in termms of abilities until you leave the island and do a proper reroll. Personally I'm also playing Ifan and have him set as a pure mage (with a staff) and turned sebille into the hunter so do whatever you feel is fun especially due to the fact later in the game youll have 2-3 trees on every character and everyone will have a few spells.

If you want the best experience, you'll want to pick a predefined character. So yes, go ahead and pick Ifan.

Agreed. I think playing as an origin character enhances the enjoyment of the story much more than a custom character. You don't need to play as their predefined class either, so if you wanna play Ifan as a knight, go ahead. I made the Red Prince a mage instead of a fighter, and made Beast a knight instead of a battlemage.

The mirror lets you change everything besides tags and race. The predefined characters be anything you want. Furthermore, user experience is subjective, therefore, you should do what -you- think will give you the best experience from the game...it seems really weird to me that a lot of people are asking other people what they should be doing to enjoy the game.

Currently, my two friends and I are all custom characters doing whatever build we enjoy and when talk to NPCs whoever is talking to them gets to pick their own choices and we deal with the results.

'there is no correct way to play' is the correct way to play the game. The main charm of this series is doing things your own way and seeing what happens.

Honestly origin or custom character doesn't really make a difference since you can have Origin characters in your group either way. You still see their stories. Play whatever you find most fun for the best experience possible.

And yes I know thats not the answer you wanted. But what you picked in the opening sounds just fine. I wouldn't second guess it unless you weren't having fun.

Hello,

That was one dillema I went through as well before seriously starting. Basically, if you want your characters match their concept art for the sake of keeping things at its originality then yeah, keep their main classes. If you look at it, the game gives you a balanced party if you leave their classes on default, all you have to do is gather them up.

Now if you really don't care about that, just build whatever fancies you, I made Beast a cleric, Ifan a Knight, and Fane a Summoner and it all works perfectly as far as story goes.

It all really comes down to if you want to stick to their concept art / intended class, or if you prefer to customize them more to your taste.

Fane: Wizard (Nuker)
Beast: Battle Mage (Magic warrior with buffs)
Lohse: Enchanter (Crowd Control / Healer)
Red Prince: Warrior (Tank)
Sebille: Rogue (Your assassin and sneaky stuffs character)
Ifan: Wayfarer (Marksman / Sniper)

Look at the classes above. You have one of each, and can be made into an absolutely well balanced party if you wish to stick to their "original" roles. Don't forget to have fun! That's the most important!
