Talk to people for quests. Have the pet pal tag and talk to animals for even more quests.

Explore everywhere, talk to everyone, pick up everything (and sell it if its not something you may want) and kill every group of enemy you see (Might have to skip some groups that are higher level, come back to them later).

Alternatively you're gonna want to go sneak and pickpocket almost everyone, and after you get that lovely gold you can fight them :P

Get level 2 on the boat, get level 3 by just running around exploring and doing talking quests, then get level 4 by doing some fighting and some more quests. Then you can just keep on figthing. Just save a lot, so you can wait with enemys that wipes the floor with you.

While on that (good) point, start playing on the lowest level. D:OS2 makes unusually strategic use of the terrain, so that high ground lets you shoot harder and further, water underneath an enemy can be deadly when hit with a lightning bolt, etc. It isn't easy for many people to get the hang of. Just a thought. You won't earn less XP by;doing this.
