There's literally no reason to.. unless you make some RP reason to, I suppose. You won't find a source point till after the fort and there isn't much in between the fort and where you can get the collars removed from everyone (and the entire fort aggros you after the fort anyway).

It's funny as you'd think there'd be at least one source point to make that event useful and to make the boss fights in the fort more interesting... but nope.

Only if you are ready to be sneaky or fight. If you still have general stuff to do, go ahead and do that. You won't really be rolling in any kind of source points to use your skill until you exit the fort anyway, so no rush to get it off.

Just go back and have it removed before you are ready to move on. Alternatively, if you think you are strong enough (save in another slot if you are worried), it makes it simple to aggro all the magister guards and the like and you can kill them all for XP.

Edit: Just beat me to it! ;) But yeah, it would honestly make sense for the main fort boss fight to have a source pool where the girl is to at least give SOME reason for it.

Okay ..thanks guys.

Wouldn't you need to in order to complete quests like the cursed pigs, for example? I got it removed, but then that turned the rest of my island experience into Magister murder time - though I think it would become that anyway once they see you sneaking into the fort.

Only reasons I can think of is a) roleplaying purposes b) You've a fair idea it will get you landed in the dungeons...which maybe, might be a place you want to be. Depending on your level, and what quest lines you have developed

It lets you equip a neck piece, so if you don't mind magisters attacking on sight it does offer a slight benefit.

I do infact mind Magisters attacking on sight. I am not ready or have no intention of taking on the entire fort. So I have ecided not to take her up on her offer.

FWIW, it's not a general every magister vs. you scenario. It's really just two separate gate guard encounters and the wandering guy. By level 4, it shouldn't be too difficult, even on Tact, to take them on.

Sorry for replying to all 3 of you I just thought it would be a bigger chance to get an answer if I tried you all.

So I am at a point where I think I've done everything I can at the beginning of fort joy. And I've read going to the swamp or exploring the rest of fort joy once you are out of the dungeon automatically makes all the magisters and source dogs aggro. So since removing it will just throw me in a cell that I can easily break out of once I get it removed from having won the arena fight is there any point in me not doing it? Or are there still places in fort joy where other people besides the magisters will aggro you if you don't have it for story reasons?

You'd get a better chance at an answer by making your own thread, rather than raising one up from 4.5 years ago. I doubt anybody you just quoted would come back and answer this, and the game has been updated a lot since then.

No, there's really no reason not to remove your collar once you've completed the content in Fort Joy.

Thx, I've done that now :) I made a Reddit post but saw this and thought what the hell I could just try and see. Wanting to try and get answers before the next time I play. I have not completed all the content in fort joy. Like I said just the early parts (even though I've played almost 20 hours on this playthrough I'm bad and slow at this game :p ) but since the options now seem to be going to the swamp, or to one of the two exits in the dungeon that leads to the magisters behind closed gates at the square, or the one you can teleport to from the cave entrance. Is it true that every magister will fight me from now on even if I have the collar on once I go out to one of those 3 areas?

Cause if that is the case then ur right there is no reason to not remove it unless there possibly are other characters besides the magisters in the rest of fort joy that won't like you not wearing the collar and would aggro you.

Correct, once you escape the fort by any of the available routes all remaining magisters will turn hostile. I like to go back around level 5-6 or so and clean them out.

I won the arena in fort Joy early on so I didn't take off the collar till I wrapped other quests and tasks within the area before I decided to escape. So once I took the collar off, I was navigating through the dungeons and decided to wipe out the interior of the fort before opening the drawbridge. After that it didn't seem to matter much if you had the collar or didn't, you don't really get any real source powers to use till later.
