That's a general rule of all puzzles from act 2 onwards, if there seems to be no possible solution, use spirit vision.

Some bits are a bit scatty / still a great though
You need to use the party leader to fix the door. Or else it is tied to scoundrel ability or something. But neither my human, lizard nor dwarf additions could get it to work, but my leader could. When it works, a new lever is formed on the wall, you can now open it yourself.
I sold mine as well, but i got them back from the shop keeper, you can buy back all your items when you scroll to the bottom.
