Instead I took a party member with Teleport and put him on the tower west of where Higba is hiding, near the dwarf Kannox and Magister Benson (who was bugged for me maybe? he was behind 3 barrels and not walking around). I could walk Higba over to within sight of the tower without even sneaking. I then teleported him clear to the far shore, near the guy who lost his wedding ring, which solved the quest without harming Magisters.
I don't know why they changed it. Took me awhile to find this out having done the stuff that doesn't work.
BS does not.
Ideally, I'd like to do this without killing any magisters myself to avoid a bigger fighting mess. If there's one thing I LOATHE about this game, it's that NPCs don't stop walking when you click on them...
But can you actually rescue him that way, or does the game force you into combat with him? I've had some bad experience with quests like this, where I tried to help someone but in the end I wasn't able to pick the decision to actually help them because of previous actions.
As for rescuing, I hear the pyramid trick no longer works in the DE. I just escorted him to the west and across the river. Took out one nosy magister who got too close, but otherwise no problems.
