Skill checks when talking to people?
it feels like i'm doing this wrong since almost every time i try to solve an issue through a check like strength or wits i always fail even though i start the conversation with the character that has 20+ in that stat, what's going on?

I have maxed finesse with lone wolf (~85) and still failing finesse checks, looks like you need persuasion skills or you can only pass easy checks

I can't say for sure if it checks those stats, it might just check the points you have in Persuasion.

Any persuasion point gives+4 to a skill check automatically. The hardest persuasion dialog options require quite a bit of points to be passed. I usually play with Persuasion maxxed first as civil ability and succeed about 90% of my persuasions.

It's just that persuasion is actually useful in this game and has a real purpose.

update: i forgot persuasion was a thing so i only had 1 point in it, i respected and put 2 points from other categories and now i passed the check first try

I believe the difficulty of a skill check varies between individual choices. Trying to (STR) intimidate a dragon, for example is not likely to work. So you don't always want to simply choose your highest attribute, chose the dialogue option which sounds most likely to suceed.

That is where persuation comes in. It gives a bonus to all attributes for dialogue skill checks.
