Jahan becoming instantly hostlie

So I have just come across Jahan and for some reason, the moment I enter sight range he accuses me of trying to steal from him 3 times, then attacks me. All I am doing is getting near him, not picking anything up. I even tried to sneak up to him to enter dialogue but he instantly talks to me when I get within range even when I'm in sneak mode. Apparently he has 360 degree X-ray vision?

Nevermind, It appears that an item I picked up just before I reached him (Lost purse I think) was for some reason considered stealing even though it wasn't marked as such. I decided to come back to Jahan later and when I got near a Magister not far away they also challenged me 3 times, but gave me the option to talk my way out of it and i've since gone back to Jahan with no problems.
