Any reason to play Divinity: Original Sin 1?
So today I was pretty determined to get D:OS2.

Then I made the mistake of searching forums and asking around if it's important to play the first one before I play the second.

What I've gathered is, at least story wise, it is not important to play the first before the second. However, the first one continues to receive accolades on how amazing it was etc...a lot of people are saying I should just play the first one because it was straight awesome.

I am excited to try a new release game, but also I don't want to miss anything from this series if it really is that good. If you have played both and could give best advice to a lover of good RPG; would you recommend playing 1 first then moving to 2? Or just starting with 2, and if I like it enough I could go back to play 1?

Sorry this seems like a silly question but I know how much time a good RPG can take up, and I guess I want to start with the best option. Thanks for helping me with my silly question!

It is awesome. I also think that it might be a better introduction to DOS2's mechanics than DOS2 is, so there's that. The only downside might be burning yourself out, I suppose, doing two full length cRPGs with near identical mechanics back to back.

i have not played the first or completed the second but they are different by 1000 years and as such lore truly does not affect or mean anything.

You should view them as different games with same core idea having been used as the foundation.

note: you could play DOS2 first and then when winter comes buy the 1st one at discount as usually during winter older releases get major discounts while new games only get 10-25% discount at most if lucky. If you still have the energy for a 2nd cRPG when the time comes :)

You actually put into words what I could not. Burnout, also not to mention wanting to play other games that will be released this year as well.

I don't think so.

It still has the great gameplay but the story isn't very good and is not at all important to this one, and if you play all of the first you might be a bit burned out to then move on to this one which is a much better game overall.

Just play the new one, if you get the old one, you'll just be wishing you got the second instead,

Divinity: Original sin 1 is a great game, but you don't need to play it to understand the story of 2. If you want to play 2 first go for it, you can always pick up the first at a later date.

Agree with first comment.
Start with DOS1, DOS2 still have some bugs and getting patches.

I really like the first one, cuz it was a diffrent experiance form all the garbage games out. Played it Coop tho. And when you
finish maby dosII has been patched.

Obviously haven't been able to experience what's wrong with the game currently but are we talking game breaking bugs? Or just balance issues and tweaks?

Hard to say, since it's still pretty recent. The most game breaking stuff that I've heard about is save corruption that'll cost people a few hours. They've started addressing it but, we'll see if it's truly sorted or not. Besides that, some people are pretty annoyed by LOS issues and height differences not limiting AI melee attacks and there are scattered reports of broken quests... In some cases, it seems to be player confusion, but I wouldn't write them all off yet.
I would say: Go with the Second One.
I'm an huge fan of Divinity in General, i also loved the first Game, but i can't put it in Words how much better Divinity Original Sin 2 - in every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ aspect. Once you played Divinity 2 the first Game feels nothing more like an Prototype for the actual Game which Divinity Original Sin 2 offers. So don't get me wrong, i still find DOS1 amazing and i can everyone advice who is interested in it, give it a try. But if you have to decide between DOS1 and DOS2 - go for DOS2. Catch up later DOS1 in an sale(like someone mentioned) if you have enough played DOS2 - and you still want more...

Everyone can't thank you enough for your kind words and taking time to help me. Currently downloading D:OS2 right now and very happy about that.
