Pickpocket Timer?
I'm a bit confused as to why I can not pickpocket a vendor twice. Is there a timer on it or it is a big ♥♥♥♥ you to thieves once you pick around the first time?

They move and eventually they'll see you. That's what I've found.

Thievery is OP enough as it is

Yeah we dont really need the chance to pickpocket more than once. I feel bad doing it even once because gold just lost all its meaning once i started doing it.

But if you really want to steal everything, just respec every char for thievery and go out on a thieving spree with +skill items that you swap around for each one and get to pickpocket every npc 4 times. It should be more than enough to steal pretty much everything they own and than sell it all to the npcs you cant steal from.

it exists to stop you from stealing everything and selling it again

Most games give you a chance to get caught, so you can keep trying and sometimes succeed, sometimes fail.

This game is guarenteed to get exactly what you want, so instead you have to just chose carefully.

Thats why you can't pick pocket multiple times with one character.

Tips:
The "lock" for pickpocketing is character specific. You can steal from them at level 4 for new skills, then again with another character. Kinda annoying during act1, but once you get respec mirror you can have a thieving-spree for all 4 members of your party, each taking gold from the same vendor.

Pick pocket fortjoy when you are level 4 to make the rest of it easier. Pickpocket the other vendors on the island just before leaving the island.

have your bartering character give 1k gold to the arena vendor dude in driftwood. Sell EVERYTHING to him. Buy all your gear off him and only him. I'm currently selling things for +45% gold and buying things 45% cheaper.

Once more, pick pocket everyone before leaving the island.... or if you hit a wall and need $$ for gear, pick pocket the vendors outside of town.

Second tip, will cause you to not ever have to worry about gold again, so long as you sell EVERYTHING to him, and buy gear from only him.

Hirelings too if yah want to get more than 4 steals.

Gets old stealing alot. Takes time. I would rather spend time exploring and fighting.

I get not allowing you to pickpocket multiple times in a short amount of time but it's just stupid to make it so that you can only ever pick pocket someone once, ever. Would make a lot more sense to just put a long cooldown on the skill, like once an hour.

Other anti-cheese mechanics exist too. Like murdering a vendor does not drop all his wares. I was getting only three out of four skill books by offing the vendor sometimes.

With pickpocketing as much as possible in just act one, I can leave the act with 160-200k gold, 2-6 copies of every skillbook, all the best gear available, every consumable and crafting item that generates in any vendor inventory, 100+ res scrolls and plenty of trash gear to resell. I need to store things in barrels and crates because the weight is too much to carry. That's just act one. At the end of act two we're looking at millions of gold such that I don't need thievery for acts 3 and 4, I'll have more gold that I'll need for the rest of the game.

Thievery is broken as is, making it even more available is beyond unnecessary.

Thievery is unnecessary to clear the game and still get the good stuff. It just exists as a side hobby for kleptomaniac players.

Thievery is OP as hell

Really old thread. But unless something has changed, I recall the thieving mechanic being as though it was tacked on, an after thought. There is 'cheese' and lifting items off of a merchant more than once in the game normal state would be exploitable and 'op', sure. But why have arbitrary and nonsensical limitations that do not make sense just because you didn't want to make a balanced logical system.
Although, the tacked on simple band aid pick pocketing system was par for the course with this game. It was filled with potential for save scumming and getting rng luck rolls off searchables. It worked for what it was, but the game stopped short of being great.
