What's the point of Source skills?
I love this game to death. It's great. But, I'm nearly thhrough Act 1 and so far I've never used the source skills on any of my characters becuase they requires Source which is pretty much impossible to get. And even if you do find a soruce pool and get a point for 1 (and only one) character, you save it for bless, not to throw away on regular source skills.

I guess I don't understand why they'd put skills in the game that they heavily discourage you from using. And it's not like the source skills appear to be anything great. The initial ones at least actually appear kind of crappy. What's the point of even having them in the game if you can't use them at least fairly regularly?

Same for me. You get later the skill to steal source points from others but whats the point? I beat the game using source skill only at the last battle. I dont like the system at all. It discouraged me to use it

Until you learn how to suck source from things I find source abilities quite pointless. And even after that they become just "slightly" less pointless. Though after Fort Joy get an access to endless source of Source, but you have to backtrack every time to take a sip.

Source skills don't even feel that powerful. I thought about using source abilities only once, when was thinking about 1hp build. Basically you take an ability that rests all CDs and keep recasting resist death on yourself. But it would be hard to maintain since you can be simply CCd.

Steal also work on dead bodies and spirits. After every fight you can always refill all your source points.
Some source skills doing great damage or utility.

There is an infinite source pool in the armory of braccuss. Source is not "pretty much impossible to get in act 1"

Some of the source skills can greatly turn the tide of battles. Like lohses and thanes passive. The rest are rather useless.

For me the game is just so easy even on tactician that I basically just auto attack everything to death and win and rarely have to consider using them though.
When you get the tele pyramids it's easy to refill your source points, just drop them at an infinite pool and tele back at your convenience. Source skills are generally a bit stronger or tend to have nice effects though it isn't something you throw out in every trash fight.

I haven't NEEDED to use them yet though so they might be a tad too incovenient to use/not strong enough to bother with for most people.

Fire slug can be nice. Iban's wolf can help in a tight spot and Fane getting two turns instead of one can be really deadly. Give him 1lvl of scoundrel for adrenaline and use it on his free turn. You end up having 8 AP on him in the first combat round(2 points lost on activating ability, hence 8 not 10)

I've got to say, the Custom Character initial source skill is VERY powerful. The dome refreshes your shields and magic armor EVERY TURN. This skill has single handedly made the Alexander fight MUCH much easier for me

If you play thane with scoun and the right combo of haste, initiative high enough to let you go first, and then delaying your turn to let the enemies close in right next to you or being in invisibility. You can get free

+6AP first turn
+5AP second turn
-2AP for time warp
+5AP time warp turn
+2AP adrenline

For a whopping 16 total AP worth of abilities/attacks back to back before the enemies can even take a movie. If you got glass canon or lone wolf its even better.

<ahem!>

There's a big tank of source with an unlimited supply in Act 1.

glass cannon should only be used for specific builds where you deal with that problem through some other avenue. It doesn't make that skill any less useful for character NOT having a specific talent that only works if you build your build around it
