Only person I'd leave behind outright is Sebille because the edgelord thing rubbed me the wrong way. Beast only got left behind because I liked everyone else more and he's just kinda there, I suppose.
The other characters are nice as well, but don't add to the same extend.
I have heared that the red prince also has a very interesting story which results in different gameplay a couple of times. So if I had to give an advice to a version of myself who didn't play the game yet, I'd recommend these two.
Ifan's story isn't really all that. Literally having Sebille and Ifan in the same party destroys each other's story to a degree since literally every person they talk to is the same. Most of the side references with Ifan also seemed dull as it generally started a combat I preferred not to partake in until later. Not to mention how generic he tends to be and how pointless his source ability is. A buddy in a co-op game took him and it didn't take long before he regretted it.
Sebille isn't as bad, her elven trait is useful and while the source ability isn't too great, it does have its uses, though she really has to be a melee of some form to need it. I wasn't a huge fan of her story, as it really just seems like a better written version of Ifan. My comps often swap Lohse and Sebille interchangably (Lohse's story gets tiresome after awhile, unless you play as her). Occasionally I ditch Fane too, but thats mostly when I don't feel like having an undead.
Lohse and Beast have disruptive magic abilities. The damage is alright but the crowd control is the real selling point. It does require that you shred the enemy's magic armor which makes it almost useless on a purely physical comp. But they have their uses.
Ifan's spirit wolf is weak and requires you to spec into summoning to give it any survivability come late game. Even then a regular incarnate ends up being better. And Sebille's God power is decent but does not synergize with how I play her which is either a rogue (who is untargetable half the time) or a ranger (who should not be getting targeted anyway). It's helpful but there are normal skills that do this action more efficiently and give some kind of buff to boot.
Example Ifan wolf sure it requires summoning like your suggesting but i kinda like summoning so Point being? Oh your own personal taste? we dunno you well enough to come up with that choice on our own dude.
Reguardless If your asking who my fav NPC Companions are? Top 4 No real order ... kinda in order not realy is Loshe / Ifan / Sable / Beast I am one of the few that hate the res prince / Fane/Bane or w.e ♥♥♥♥♥♥ name he is pass on the lizard/undead guy
I would say Loshe/Ifan for sure and then the 3/4 place spot is Beast/Sable
kinda like the Merc / Girl with a demon trying to poses her ordeal / story the most.
Personally I also hardly ever used them. I thought Fane's was the most powerful one (extra turn) but as this broke the combat a couple of times I didn't use it either.
