What does Fumbling do?
Question in the title. Periodically I'll see Fane, specced as a rogue, fumble applying some status effect. The flyover text reads something like "Fumbled on applying Crippled".

What does this mean exactly? I've never seen it occur with anyone but Fane--any other time any character attempts to apply a status ailment and fails, it just says something like "Crippled failed due to Physical Armor". I can't find anything about this in the game or in the wiki.

Failed is failed due to armor blocking the effect.
Fumbled, means it was eligible to be on the target, the damage from the ability has happened but the effect has missed.

Fumble means that an item's effect did not work. So if Fane's dagger has a 5% chance to cause crippled it will say "fumbled on applying Crippled" if the 5% chance did not succeed.

I think fumbling happens in those circumstances when the there are weapons with attached possibility of providing status effects (10 to 20% at most). During weapon hit You supposed to set those status effect but due to low ability You can't. This is fumbled.

Fumetastic is correct, Ashera is wrong. Fumbled does just mean the % proc on your weapon failed. If the proc succeeds but armour blocks the effect, a message stating that specifically will pop up.

Apologies I should have defined that it's on the weapon... Not ability. Typing faster than I am thinking it would seem.
