Restoration as in "Shields Up", "Mend Metal", "Soothing Cold", however "Fortify", "Armour of Frost" for example PROVIDES armour.

Allright, finally some clarity then.
I still think its a little odd for Larian to differentiate those words. If I remember correctly you get to keep the armor gained from Armor of Frost even after the buff and max armor fall of, so in a way it restores too.
