Lore questions : Magister and Paladin
What are their difference?
Are they both under the command of the Divine Order?
What are their origin?
Is there a rivalry between them?

I was under the impression that the Magister has a similar role of police and Paladin works like army. But then I entered Arx and saw they are fighting and killing each other all-out. It's kind of satisfying and make me to rethink if my thoughts are correct

I haven't read all the text when progressing through the game. Would anyone please share the knowledge about both organizations?

Hmm, as far as I could tell they are both in the Divine Order, at least that's what Corq says in Fort Joy.

As for their roles? Not sure, my guess is that Paladins are more of an "elite" force, tasked to hunt certain things and Magisters ensure peace within city walls.

Both sub-factions are part of the Divine Order, however their origins are different.

Paladins originated from nobility, their training, weapons and faith would be stronger than the average magister. They report directly to Lord Kinder Kemm, they also believe that the Voidwolken are pulled from external factors other than Source, mainly the Black Ring organisation.

Magisters are known as the lower levelled soldiers of the Order, with the exceptions of higher ranks such as the White Magisters. Their role involves standard policing, patrols and usually seen escorting most of the time. Their faith is twisted easily as seen throughout the game. Having belief from Dallas and Alexander, cleansing the world of Source would be the best possible way to keep peace despite the cost of doing so.

Both factions support Lucian however they each have very different external beliefs.

IIRC, the Paladins were Lucian's personal guard duing the war with the Black Ring and were sworn to follow his orders. They were kind of his Praetorian Guard.

The Magisters are the military arm of the Church of Lucian.

The schism between them came with the death of Lucian, and the decision of who had control of the body. The Paladins won custody of the body.
