Is Jahan Important?

I killed the advocate and turned in the quest, told Jahan the name. I then killed him which gives a substantial XP reward (like 150k), but reloaded because I wasn't sure if he is important later.

On my first playthrough I didn't kill him, and never saw him again, but I read about people seeing him on the boat or in Arx?

Any reason to leave his sweet XP alone and let him live?

I believe he helps with the Lohse story. If you really NEED him for it, I don't know.

He does come aboard the Lady Vengeance after telling him the 'name' but that probably only happens if you have Lohse in your party. Even then he doesn't help with Lohse's issue even when you reach Arx. Malady will be the one to aid Lohse in ridding her of the demon, so go ahead and do whatever you want with him. There seems to be a lot of sidequests that fell through during the game's development, for example the possessed girl you bring onto the ship.

Do you have Lhose in your party? If so, no. If yes, feel free, although he can teach you either a relatively benign way to get a new source point or if you're maxed, he can give you a unique skill book.

He is reputed to be quite powerful, though, so killers beware...

Yes.

In any event there should be more than enough XP to get you up to level 16 even without killing him, at which point you should leave the island. I didn't even do any of the Blackpits on my first playthrough because I was level 16.

Beside 150K XP, killing Jahan gets a Divine two-handed sword (+3 Str, +1 Warfare, +6 initiative, +30% shock & empty slot)

You meet him in a secret

The Doctor imprisons him and I didn't find him until like after everything was done so I don't know if he becomes a vendor again or not. If you find him, you will get to loot some pretty unique uniques.
