Anyone else finding Source points pointless?
Practically impossible to obtain, enemies that sap source points randomly at higher levels. Am I the only one that's just ignored this mechanic entirely? Only disappointment is missing out on some cool looking spells that take 1, 2 or even three source points, plus action points to cast for a round if not summons.

The whole concept seems forced, I understand the tie in to the story but otherwise it just hasn't even seemed worth the effort.

Once you have Source Vampirism, you can easily maintain a fairly full pool of points and they can be quite useful in a fight. That said, aside from bless and giving them up for story reasons, you can certainly get through most of the game without them. If you're really bothered by them, grab one of the mods which reduce or eliminate the cost of Force spells.

It's easy to obtain them, and it's good the way it is. Most of the good spells need source and its a way to limit / balance combat. Otherwise, the game would be too easy

Source spells on the right build can one shot most encounters or at least make sure they end first turn. It's about right that they're a pain to use.

There are source fountains in Fort Joy and Driftwood where it is easy enough to recharge any time you need to, and once you get Source Vampirism you rarely have to use them, defeated enemies and random dead bodies will usually provide ample source.

The extra turn source ability is great to use in two situations. At the start of the fight to use a turn on buffs, then get another turn right after. Or near the end of a fight when you know that 1 extra turn will let down a troublesome enemy without letting them get another turn.

And as mentioned, thanks to vampirism there is no reason not to have full source at the end of every fight.

I would disagree, once you acquire source vampirism. I'm constantly looking for corpses to drain and I try to keep all my chars 3/3 source points. The spells and abilities are very powerful, it can be a major advantage depending on your difficulty.

Not everyone would role play a party willing to use source vampirism like that. I'm not sure if every act has a fountain, but I know I'm not going to be touching the abilities until finding one unless I absolutely must.

When I played, I made a point of only draining the spirits of spiteful enemies, many of whom are under the impression their King is going to bring them back once he wins; quite disappointing for them when backing the wrong horse gets them destroyed for all time. But I won't drain from ally spirits or the innocent. I'm still, quite often, source plentiful. (For my second playthrough, though, I did download the mod to make Bless a free ability)

Ok, so being over 100 hours in and I haven't even been to Arx yet, when do you acquire source vampirism?

After you acquire your second source point, go back and do the ritual to talk to your god again and they'll give you the ability.
Leave one of your pyramids at a source fountain, so You can restock at anytime you are low.

I use the pyramids for quick source too if needed. Put one near a source fountain and keep it there. Drop one you're carrying, use it to port to the fountain, fill everyone up, port back to exactly where you were, pick your pyramid up. Rinse and repeat. Don't forget to grab the one at the source fountain before moving into the next chapter. This can concievably be used after every battle. It does make the game a bit easier, especially if you have the 3 source point skills locked and loaded.

For a mage they become bread and butter abilities. They can one shot encounters.

For a melee character they're more or less superfluous. I guess a shield user will want Overpower and a Dagger Dual Wielder can use Mortal Blow as an opener, but the rest of the melee source skills are crap.

Yeah, had absolutely no idea there was source fountains, or that you could go back and talk to your god. I've maxed out my source points at 3 and been running around randomly finding puddles but ultimately just ignoring the ability hands down.

Peeps ok to kill, but not take obsolete source. Fair enough 😎
