How do strength and finesse work?
Is it the same deal as the first where each stat governs different weapons? I was hoping to have a 2 1h sword finesse build but the stat that governs one hand swords seems to be strength

Yup, swords are strength based.

They are associated with specific weapons.
Str-> swords, axes, maces etc.( both one and two handed)
Fin-> daggers, bows, crossbows and spears
Int-> staffs and wands
In case you didn't know( and for people that actually use the search function) the attribute that governs the damage for weapon skills( those that deal damage with the weapon) is based off of the equipped weapon regardless of skillset. Damage and damage type also change accordingly but not saving throws for statuses.

You might want to use 2 rapiers. Those are finesse!

Aren't they just reskinned daggers?

I hope not, that would be a shame.

In DOS 1 they functioned exactly like daggers (including scoundrel requirements and backstabs). Thus my assumption they do this time around aswell and are only there for the looks.

At a certain level of abstraction most weapons of a certain type are the same. I mean what's the real difference any 1h strength based weapon? Seriously, I am asking. Is there a difference in reach or typical damage ranges? If that's true of 1h strength based weapons I hope it is also true of 1h finesse based weapons.

Good point @ BemusedBear.
As far as I know there is no real difference between axes, swords and maces etc.
I guess having rapiers being daggers would make sense from that perpective.
Having rapiers be some kind of unique 1h weapon would also require matching skills, and I don't think we have those.
And if we did, swords, axes and maces should of course also get their unique skills.
Still a pitty though.

Looking to answer my own questions I looked up some of the unique items available in the EA and it appears all 1h swords, daggers, staffs, and maces have s 1.50m range. 2h axes and swords have a 2.0m range and spears have a 2.50m range.

Since there isn't s range difference between daggers and 1h strength weapons there shouldn't be one for 1h finesse weapons

Thanks for the replies. That sucks though. I want the extra dodge without having to pour a bunch of points in 2h but still want to use 2 1h swords. Oh well. Strength build it is
