but you can make them whatever you want when you recruit them
lizards are best suited for int builds, dwarves for str build, elves for finesse builds while humans aren't particularly geared for any but the wits bonus is good for everything
They probably made Red Prince a fighter despite the optimal stat bonus because it fit his character better?
For the party, you should first decide wether you want a pury physical, pure magical or mixed damage group. Because your damage reduces health only after the physical or magical armor is gone, doing both damages needs more time to get to the health. However, enemies often have less magical or less physical armor, so you can attack the lesser armor, if you have a mixed damge group. For example, your warrior and rogue attack a mage (few physical armor) while your two mages attack an enemy melee fighter (less magical armor).
At least on "Classic" difficulty any group composition of a party of 4 seems ok to manage the fights. You know, there were mages with a quite convential build (means: no stupid ubar 20-ap-builds) that could solo the whole Act 1, so with a party of 4 you should be fine. I will play a pure physical group at release, but mainly because I don't like magic, not because it is necessary.
As a warrior you'll likely have a way to replenish your armor anyways, so it becomes even more important to have a small grace period to horribly murder mages before they can do unto you first. :D
