Saving Atusa
So I've been playing around for a while now trying to milk as much out of the game as it currenty is and I discovered something. Its completely impossible to save Atusa. I know its perfectly possible to avoid encountering Dallis and her croonies there, but there is no way to actually prevent them from killing her. If you attack them, Dallis kills Atusa on her first turn. If you teleport Atusa away, She still dies. You teleport Dallis away, she still kills Atusa. Given Atusa seems to have some form of connection with the Vernas guy, and his importance for other reasons, it really kinda sucks that no matter what you do its not possible to keep her alive.

I mean this quite literally, messing around with stuff I literally defeated Alexander and Dallis in a single turn before either could act. And stunned them both for good measure. But that still didn't stop them from killing Atusa.

Its possible to save a number of other characters from otherwise inevitable deaths, one such event even just past the very gates Atusa is at. So...Why not her?

Because Plot Armor - or something opposite, actually. The devs intedend her to die, its story advancement.

The thing with Dallis I can get. They don't intend for you to be able to beat her that early. Even the second encounter they don't expect you to easily beat her or Alexander. But those examples of plot armor feel more real. Especially if you've seen them first hand.

This feels slightly more contrived. I mean Atusa will actively try to bring you harm if she can act before Dallis does, even though in this speccific case the goal is to save her. And the entire argument they were having was about whether or not Atusa was in fact still loyal to the order that Alexander was a part of. It doesn't make sense for Dallis to kill her in the middle of a fight like that when she is clearly still trying to help them.

You're only thinking about it from your point of view. Dallis and Alexander probably already know that Atsua has turned traitor. They could simply want to make a show for anybody that thinks they can escape. Murder someone they know to be helping sourcerers so they lose hope and are more compliant. Even if Atusa attacks you in a vain attempt to convince Dallis to let her live. Just because you Atusa's fate does not mean that Atusa knows her fate.

It is things like this that make a game feel alive to me. Characters that are actually characters and not just set peices. While I can understand the frustration of trying to save someone for so long to no avail, but i think this particular instance is clever. Could be I am reading a bit too much in to it, although I think those at Larian are clever enough to have thought of this

Adding on, I killed her before her convo with me even ended, don't ask me how, and she still turns into a dragon and somehow kills Atusa after flying off before you can move lol.

Because despite everything Larian does really well, people seem to forget that they are far from perfect. Often times the game throws respect for player agency entirely out of the window, for the sake of their own hollywood drama to play out. Here's hoping they have less of an ego in Baldur's Gate 3.

One time, I was using mods that gives enemies random extra statuses and skills to make it harder. I attacked Dallis with e big barrel, she left, and during the fight, one of the magisters resurrected Atusa! It was so weird. Sadly he died again shortly after. I had a save right before the fight, and tried to replicate it about 20x, but he was never resurrected agian.

Now we can say: They didn't

Accept the fact that some lizard girls will perish, it's for a greater cause (assuming you pick the right ending)
