Is it important to have played Divinity: Original Sin 1? [Story-wise]
My friends haven't played D:OSEE (I haven't finished it yet, plan to this weekend.)
Is it important for them to know?

From what I have seen so far not at all.

It reminds me of the Witcher series in which some of the characters and the references may be missed if you havent played the prior games but as a whole the story etc. should still make perfect sense.

It's a great game (even if the EA is only act 1) btw!

Which is why we're buying 4 copies to play as the end all be all RPG. We're still deciding whether we buy it now or later when it releases.

There is more than a 1000 years between those two games, so I'd say no, not really.

The only thing that connects the 2 games is Source. Also, the Sourcerer King Braccus Rex who is mentioned in Divinity: Original Sin 2 appears in Divinity: Original Sin as the final boss of the first map . Not sure if it's that relevant though. :P

From what I've seen, knowledge of the previous game is not required. It will help for the crafting recipes, though.

The only thing that connects them "now", is what you mean.

I've been working on beating DoS EE, because after completing Act 1 of DoS 2, I was curious because the two games were actually connected, even if the games are a 1000 years apart as someone mentioned.

In the first game, you're literally Source Hunters, while in the second game (as of now), you're Source users, and it's still shunned upon.

I wouldn't rule out both games not being connected, until they actually release DoS 2, or until a Dev says otherwise I guess.

Sorry I think I said it in a wrong way xD I meant that the only thing that connects them storywise is Source. Other than that there is no real story connection between DOS and DOS 2 (for now I guess).

Like you aren't missing out on anything if you didn't play the first game. Same world, different timeline, different story. :)

Well, that's good, I guess.

I'm not even sure if we're going to be able to follow the story in DOS2.

Because we're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiots.

They haven't even added the tutorial yet (they said they would in next patch I think), which would probably explain a bit to us already. So far we know we are sourcerers and that we are imprisoned and sent to fort joy :P

No. But this game is far from complete. You will have a much better time playing the first one and then come back to this when it is released.

Oh that indeed. I have played the first one til the 2nd map (when enhanced edition came out, I just had to replay the game so I did xD) and when I got myself DOS2, I loved it. Yes it's still buggy and in EA, but it's awesome :) and so nostalgic with the combat <3

Considering the current playable version only has Act 1, we can't say for certain. But from what I've played of DOS2, there doesn't seem to be any continuation of the old story.

no this is like 1000 years after or before not sure so while might be some things from the first game get mentioned i imagine it'll be in passing and wont have a huge coralation to the main plot. Things might make more sense are minor like knowing what source is, for example... and who the source hunters are.

Funnily enough if Raze's placement in the timeline is correct (I don't have time to read entire timeline right now), Divinity: Original Sin 2 is closer to sequel/story continuation of Divine Divinity rather than sequel/story continuation of first Original Sin.

So should the question be, "is it important to have played original Divine Dininity?", instead? :wizorbwink:
