Best Weapons / Best Skills (Sacrifice)
What are the strongest weapon types?
Melee/Range?

Some weapons are really hard to play, atm i like to play staff, but i wonder if there are better weapons to play with e.g. doublesword?

Also i would be grateful to hear which skills in the skill tree are recommended to level/max out?

final upgrade of the middle tree points out dead ends, letting you get more loot

bomb most rooms in the top line is good for opening dead ends too

personally i hate staff and bow (the damage feels weak, their jump attack is a pain to hit)

im not so keen on one handed (i feel like id always want either a greatsword or a spear instead)

i like dual wield and spears (both having nice mobility and crowd options)

i love two handed (big hits and spin to win)

I love using the shield&sword and the dual daggers, good damage and if you get a good version of them you get a nice skill, normal I hope to get the skill shield in ealy game, so I can save up healing items till the 4 stage out if 5, that way

There aint no "strongest" or "best" just like that. It basically sums up to how good how can play and manage with the different kind of weapons.

Weapons
It is a given for most people that ranged with range makes it easier to play, though i don't quite agree. What i do agree on, is that ranged is easier to manage, it involves less risk and usually you can kite while avoiding damage most of the times (some rooms where you get assaulted instantly are a pain with ranged unless you have a really nice skill or beast set up). Some bosses are also easier to handle with ranged than melee (Golem... im looking at you....). Though from the three choices, i prefer bow / staff (some ice staffs are quite good).... i find musket more risky and feels like less range to it (and also, skills for them usually suck)

With all that said i usually prefer melee, while it's not as safe.... with some good items and decent skill, the stagger and knockdown capacity is much better with melee and easier to handle some heavy prays..... that's if and only if, you know how to avoid some pattern attacks and come out unscathed, and that's twice as important for bosses.... else you'll get wiped out without mercy.
As for melee itself.... i enjoy mostly shield and sword, or spear..... i absolutely hate dual blades, they feel weak and dont stagger enemies as well as others. For two handed i don't like the flow and how slow they are, and the special is crap. That said..... skills have a big role in your weapon.... some skills are just meh and don't make a differences..... but for instance, dual blades with holy awaken are BEAST..... just like the guardian of justice that will wreak havoc and destroy a room of powerful enemies without breaking a sweat.

Upgrades
Okay... now for upgrades... it also comes down to your playstyle. I recommend opening up all the upgrade trees as starter, while avoiding the final ones (i don't find them as vital to my gameplay and use souls for the others for now)... except sixth sense.... i maxed out that one right away.... since between the 50% chance of footprints and the random chance of you finding the side rooms... you get a total of 75% chance of stumbling upon them and some have cool items or nice stuff. The rest is up to you, you can prioritize defense or hp leech chance or speed.... since you open up the trees first you will already have the important single point skills like resisting bad potions, and such. You can also max out the absorb bosses souls since that will give you a better yield of souls for runs (thats what i did). Also try to get some points on nutrition since that will make lower healing items more useful (especially noticeable on apples)

Sorry if this was too long hehe, i tried to sum up most things i've learned so far and how i adjusted to my playstyle.
Hope you have fun!

Thank you Eisvogel. That was exactly the kind of information I was looking for, when I selected that Forum thread! :steamhappy:

On my last playtrough I have found a purple musket with black hole skill. I also found an armor that gave me bonus for the musket and a lot of move speed. Also I had a tank summon who helped a lot. I'm pretty sure that was the best gear in the game. The black hole skill is so overpower, it just kills everything so easily, even bosses, and the cooldown was quick. I was playing solo (lvl 25), got to the last part of the final boss, and left him with 1% hp when I died... arghhh

Harvest is a life saver if you aren't playing in holiday mode, and I'd say summonings can sometimes work better than blackhole if you're good at kiting.

Holiday mode?

I don't know.... i usually go for some sweeping or good dmg skill.... if i went for healing i'd go for something like the pray skill more than harvest i believe.... but i also doubt i'd go for healing anyway.... if anything, i'd go for shield no doubt
