Legitimately... Is this a bitcoin miner?
Had a friend get it on Epic and we tried to play in a private lobby last night, and both of our internet connections were acting incredibly strange as we did so, and not in a way that's explainable as a coincidence of us both having ISP issues at the exact same time. The framerate degraded for us steadily over 5-10 minutes and essentially froze completely at the first boss. We alt-f4'd our way out and suddenly our internet connections became normal again.

Saw in another topic that the most recent update caused bugs, but holy hell this was strange. Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

It could be some kind of malware. I was also playing on epic with a friend, and here are some observations. Our specs far exceed the system requirements.

In both single player and coop, there would be frame lag (fps dropping to 1-15 for several seconds/minutes). Was this high cpu or gpu usage or both? Who knows. We didn't check.

After a 2-3 hour coop session, my game crashed. In the event log, I saw "Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: Lost_Castle.exe (3936) consumed 123346874368 bytes." That is a lot of memory (over 100 GB). In Data usage overview > Data usage, Lost_Castle.exe used over 80GB of data. That is a lot of data (an average of 75 Megabits per second).

I have reported this game on the steam store page (use the flag button). If you feel the same, go for it.
We tried to play on the epic games release day and we also experienced crazy connection issues. Funnily I in fact experienced ISP issues on top (even after not playing the game), but while playing the game i could get crazy lag spikes and discord was not functioning at all. Very suspicious, thought it was on my side and my friend has better connection while being less IT educated so he might not even notice any issues.

Interesting to see I was not the only one, because it totally is pretty creepy. There are some posts about memory usage and errors, but this is first i found regarding connection.

Some post even mentioned avast flagging it as virus. Definitely would stay away from the game for those suspicious reasons.

Im also here from epic. The data this game uses (in single player!) is insane. Open up task manager and watch it rinse your network connection. Something deeply wrong is going on with this game and its network use

Yeah, thanks for the input. I'd like to be charitable and blame it on the recent Unity update patch which supposedly broke things, but this is very fishy. Even if it's innocent, the level and spread of issues it causes to your PC is absurd. I'm uninstalling and I recommend others do the same until it's fixed.

Had a similar issue during my first playthrough, whole PC froze and game was eating up 16gb ram. It never happened again afterwards.

Been playing this game for months, never had any issues. Last update brought a lot of bugs though.

If you are playing on Epic, just switch to Steam. Epic is shady, slow, and poor quality software, don't expect much from it, that is not the game's fault.

Hey there,

I can confirm with you that the game is not a Bitcoin miner. However we are currently experiencing some issues with the latest update and are working on resolving them, which is probably what you are experiencing.

We have some ideas on what is causing these issues and will hopefully have a fix soon so that you can experience Lost Castle the way it is supposed to be played!

Please bear with us and thank you for your patience.
