I can't believe I got this game 27 years ago. Got it for Christmas 1996 along with Quake and Tomb Raider. I initially loved Duke 3D more as I related more to it and I just loved using Build to create my own levels.

I have re-installed it several time over the last few years, least time was about 2-3 years ago. Are people still making levels for it? It will always be a classic for me in the era of Golden PC Games. I was so disappointed with Duke Nukem Forever.

There's Steam workshop mods where you can download levels people made easily.

People tend to hate on this specific version of Duke Nukem because the Megaton edition, the version everyone liked and was considered the most complete version, was de-listed and when World Tour launched it had issues at launch and some even mentioned that this version has control problems with mouse acceleration.

Not only that, but others have a vendetta against Randy Pitchford, the former CEO of Gearbox and the guy that bought the rights to Duke Nukem and helped the development of Duke Nukem Forever, for a variety of reasons.

Some were reasonable, like people being angry that Gearbox de-listed the Megaton edition while promoting the World Tour version. And other reasons to be angry that included him publicly throwing the Duke Nukem IP under the bus when bringing it up in conversations in interviews.

There's also the many controversies surrounding Pitchtford for some of the suff he's said and done in the past that a popular retro FPS Youtuber Civvie11 likes to joke about in his videos, which is why whenever you hear people reviewing this game or looking any of the discussions surrounding this version they tend to sometimes bring up "Greasy Bastard" Randy into discourse,

I personally, don't mind this version since I bought in a sale for cheap and it works well on my Steam Deck but I can understand why everybody else doesn't like it.

I did not know any of this. I played Duke for a few years along side Quake but when Quake II came out moved onto just Quake and Quake II. As I said, re-installed Duke every 5 years or so but that was it. I don't think I ever played Multiplayer for it.

I remember me and one of my friends creating custom maps in the build engine. We did like maps were everyone had a ‘house’ or base with a street in the middle, when one of us was finished with his we’d trade the file and the other built his house, then we played it and just bombed the ♥♥♥♥ out of each other like in a war zone lol.

Shadow Warrior with the controllable vehicles and turrets and the nuke was even more fun.

I loved making levels more then playing the game. I still have the official Duke Nukem 3D books and level design handbook. Good times 1997-1998.

I remember playing this game in the 90s where I was really terrible at it. My dad used to type in the cheat codes for me before he goes to work.
