Original 1996 source code and “2.5D” engine re-mastered in True 3D for PC!
Just curious. Booted my Megaton edition earlier and for the life of me i can't understand what 'true' 3d is? Is the Megaton edition also 'true' 3d? What does it mean... Or do they mean as a comparison to the 1996 version wich i can't recall what looks like versus megaton ( i tought they were the same but that megaton included all dlc and also allowed easier online access on modern system ).

The 1996 game used an engine called build that wasn't a true 3d engine. It was a "2.5d engine", like other fps during those days. Thats the reason when using mouse look you'd see the 2d sprites become distorted. The megaton edition used a port of the 1996 game, which added gfx effects but still wasn't 3d. This new release will have a " true" 3d engine which I believe is stupid because all the assets are 2d and will look exactly the same than with another engine like eduke32.

As I explained in your megaton forum thread, the only real difference you'll see between a 2.5d and true3d engine, is when you look up and down, and have sprites in undersized sectors above and below your field of view, which the 2.5d engine can't render propperly.

That and twenty/thirty-fold the previous system requirements.

Since you own a copy of megaton, you can go download eduke32 and use the polymer settings to see what this release's 3d engine will look like, since they are fundamentally identical in almost every way.

Also eduke32 is absolutely free as long as you own a copy of duke nukem 3D.

Thanks for the tip ... Just installed eduke to check this out. Definetely a bit better but... not enough to justify the price. Basically we are left with a new episode with a 22$ pricetag. It better be a hell of an episode:)

This is sad. Also, a lot of people with reliq systems won't be able to play with the new system requirements. It isn't my case but i have a guy on my friendlist with such a system. Now he won't be able to play this version.
