Issues launching on Linux
I'm running Ubuntu here and simply trying to play the game. I tried to run it through EDuke32 as well as forcing Proton to run it. Nothing seems to work. The game simply launches for a bit, steam Says I'm playing, then it just kills its process.

EDuke32 returns 64 errors when I try to run it. If I try to run the DUKE.RTS and DUKE3D.GRP in EDuke32, I just get Duke 3D Atomic Edition running.

Anyone know any way to run this thing on linux?

The Duke3D.grp file is just the Atomic Edition game data – the World Tour specific stuff is in other files.

It... half-worked? I followed the instructions thoroughly, and EDuke32 runs it now. But it's just the atomic edition with some issues and a new duke voice. Item pickups make messages such as "#largemedkit" and I have to open levels as user maps, and the episode selection is totally gone.

Then it hasn't found all the files. It depends a bit on your installation, but you need to both select the "Stopgap" in the "Game" selector and, if you have the World Tour stuff installed in a subdirectory, select it in the "Custom game content directory" drop-down.

I put the stopgap in an autoload folder. I didn't know it had to be in the game selector.

I haven't tried using it with the autoload folder; the autoload system is (as far as I understand) not really recommended and more of a backwards-compability thing. Try putting it in its own folder and see if it works better.

Edit: What I've done is put both the World Tour files and the Stopgap files in a "World Tour" subdirectory in the EDuke32 folder. The recommended usage is to install EDuke32 and the Stopgap right into the World Tour Steam folder though.

Nope, that didn't work. I extracted the sourceport and the stopgap into the files. Same result as before with the weird issues.

I recognize those problems and something is going wrong somewhere. I don't know what else to suggest though, other than redo it and make sure you follow the instructions. It sounds like it's not finding the right .con files.

On my computer it runs fine using both Proton and EDuke32. For Proton, no tweaks were needed. For EDuke32, I just put compiled eduke32 and unpacked The Stopgap from the link above to the game's folder. Also, I had to rename files /maps/*.MAP to .map (for episodes 1-4). Be sure e32wt.grp is chosen on "Game" tab.
Sorry for the silence, but I'm back to ask for help again.

I think changing the caps on the .map files did something? Now I'm seeing microphone icons throughout the level.

Wait, I found the solution. I must be an idiot. Or the thing must be picky on directory paths.

Instead of putting a Wolrd Tour folder in my Eduke32, and even running a copy of Eduke32 in its files from there, I just did what was said and put the sourceport and stopgap in the steam installation of it.

Sorry for wasting so much time for ya.
