How do you layout your farm?
I find myself wondering how best to do this. Should I keep the slimes and food spread out in each ranch zone or make entire zones based on veggies, meat, and fruit then transport them to the zones with slimes?

How do you normally run your ranch?

i put slime cages on the 4 slots infront of your house, then just put fruit, veggies into the other zones. If you got the glass slimes i mix them with honey, boom and spike slimes usually and get enough money from those 4 cages to get all the ranch upgrades

you can find your own layout though, its really just what your comfortable with and if you get enough plort output

Yeah I finished the game already I was trying to optimize the farm a bit to prevent less running around. Even with max drones it was needing some work.

One fully upgraded farm supports 2 medium speed autofeeders, so I just add a silo to each expansion and as much of this farm-corral combos as it fits. The rest slots (if available) are for chicked breeding or ponds/incinerators.

This is good for me to know on my next playthrough. I want to see if I can optimize things a bit.

My chicken production was low and it took me too long to realize what the breeding requirements were for them.

Also if you make a Largo, do they still have a favorite food?

Yeah, if you mix a Honey and Glass slime for example you can feed it either the Honey slimes favourite food or the Glass Slimes favourite food, also i don't make chicken farms i just mix a meat slime with a veggie or fruit slime so i can just feed it fruit or veggies

Chickens are not like irl - they need 1-1 ratio or hens and roostros (and more than only one of each too), else one of them will age up faster and the production would stall. And there is a limit of 12 adult and elder chickens in a coop (24 if fully upgraded).
And if you try to breed rare hens in Overgrowth, the wild spawning hen hens will spend the "breeding resource" of your roostros (because they check proximity, not the "in the coop" status) and the rare hen breeding will stall too. Breeding hens in any other zone is okay tho.

Better - largos have two favourite foods - from each of two base slimes!

Thank you for all of that info, I had inaccurately assumed I only needed 1 rooster so was starting my breeding with 1 rooster and 2 hens. Ahhh, well, you live you learn. Especially when someone tells you!

Thanks for clarifying the largos. Yeah my next playthrough should be much better with that information!

My setup goes like that:
Main ranch 8 plots - all of them is max silos, its just more convenient to have silos with plorts/food/meat nearby to sell at market or trade with neighbours quickly.

The Grotto 5 plots - 3 corrals with the Indigo Quarry largo slimes, and 2 gardens with their favourite food accordingly

The Overgrowth 4 plots - all different fruit/veggie gardens, chicken coops are ineffective there, and constantly spawning chickens with fruits and veggies will distract your slimes if you decide to put corrals there so the choice with gardens should be obvious,

The Lab 5 plots - all corrals with random largo slimes, since you constantly need plorts for the lab researchs i thought it would be a good idea to focus on corrals in that area, so i can quickly get some plorts if i need them for the lab

The Docks 4 plots - 2 ponds with puddle slimes + natural pond (so essentially 3 ponds in one area), and 2 corrals with random largo slimes(lab is pretty close to the docks so its more like a continuation for the lab corrals)

Ogden's Retreat 6 plots - all gardens because ogden is obsessed with fruits and because overgrowth where my other gardens located is directly tied to his area with the teleporter

Mochi's Manor 5 plots - all coops for meat production(its good to keep chickens safe without any curious slimes roaming around, and secluded area just like that is ideal)

Viktor's Workshop - i played older versions and didnt get there yet, but i think it would be a great place to locate some corrals with slimes that like dark areas, also one incinerator would help since i dont think theres any way to get rid of the unnedeed slimes in there

anyways its the mid-late game setup, i recommend you not to fill one's head with such questions at early times of the playthrough :slimescared:

I actually completed my second playthrough which this thread was for.

Heres how I ended up playing:

Main Ranch: 6 Largo pins covering the majority of plort types. The 2 areas near the house on lab side were maxed out Silos. I had 2 Drones covering the feeding of the Largo pins, most of which needed veggies. 3 teleporters were in the center, 1 went to the Ancient Ruins, 1 went to the Glass Desert, and 1 went to the Forest. Theres also a teleporter behind the house headed to the Lab and to the Docks.

The Overgrowth: 3 maxed out veggies farms with a silo near the entrance and a depot next to it connecting to the main ranch silos. 2 Drones covered the farming. Occasionally sucking up the chickens is absolutely needed.

The Grotto: 2 slime corrals, 2 fruit trees, and a silo. There was a Market Relay there for my drones to sell into. I had 2 drones covering the slime care.

The Lab: I wanted my chickens to explode so all 4 main areas were chicken farms, 1 for each type. There was a silo, and 2 drones that maintained the chickens. (Good question, are they trained to only remove chickens when needed?) Anyways once fully upgraded the chickens ended up doing well.

The Docks: 3 maxed out fruit trees and a silo. 2 drones covered the farming. Early water slimes went in the waterfall. Teleporter added here and behind the house for easy movement.

Mochi's Manor: 3 Largo corrals tailored to specific plorts. I had mosaics as a base and then the most expensive plorts as the bonus. So 2 farms, 2 drones, and a silo made this a fully functioning auto sell ranch when I put the market relay in.

Ogden's Retreat: Exact same setup as Mochi's Manor.

Viktor's Workshop: WOULD'VE been the same, except included an incinerator maybe.

By the time I got Viktor's Workshop, I had maxed out on all my upgrades, 7Zee Rewards, and got to the end.
