Too many slimes.
I'm fairly new still but, what would be a recommended amount of slimes to hold onto at the beginning because i have so many pink slime now that they are jumping out of the cage.

well you can simply get rid of them, or just upgrade the corral with high walls and an air net

To start with, typically any slime is far more profitable than the pink slime, so I recommend you start caring for the other slime types such as rock, phospur or tabby.

Since no one here really seemed to answer your question. You should do probably 2-3 slimes with normal cage, with high walls you can do around 4-6 (changes based on slime type). After you put a net in, you can have up to 12-15 normal slimes or MAX 7-10 Largos (largos are the combination of 2 slimes).

Ive kept around 36 norms theyre too hard to care for with their food requirements so i switched to around 18 largos.

I don't use the pink slimes a lot. Rock slimes and phosphours are the ones I get the most from. Though grab the solar sheild if you go for the phosphours. If you are worried about them jumping out try saving for the air net and higher walls. I have ten rock slimes in one corral and 10 phosphours in another and they do fine. The cats tend to jump alot so high walls would be a must for them. I haven't used largos much because they take up more space so I had three pink/cat largos in one. If you're not keeping up with food requirements see if you can find puddle slimes. All they need is a pool, no food or anything at the moment.

I keep 10 largos in each corral which yields a good amount of plorts and fruits/veggies don't rot since they are eaten quick enough.

I do the same, and if you feed them their favourite food you'll almost always have a full plort collection tank.

I wouldn't recommended pure tabby slime at early parts as they requires meat, and unless you have coop filled with many chicken it will be pretty hard to find some who alive as they are usually eaten fast outside the ranch.

But if you combine the tabby with other slimes, preferably anything that is not pink slime you can feed it with other food than just meat.
