What are the giant slimes for?

I've seen nobody mention them and they just kinda seem there for no reason.

You feed them their favorite food until they pop and then they'll give you a rather nice present

You can feed them. They´ll pop and you get the "Slime Key" you need for the big door.
p.s. behind there are some pretty good slimes to farm!

Stony chickens, but you can feed it any type of meat.

I reccomend feeding the Pink gordo for the slime key he drops. Feed him 60 anything, easiest to do.

and he turns into a bunch of what ever type of slimes (about 10ish) so giant pink slime becopmes 8-10 normal sized pink slimes

it's useless, you don't need the key to go next area, a simple lvl1 jetpack with 100 energy is enough to "cheat"

It's a hell of a lot faster to just feed it and get the key, than constantly jetpacking in there.
