Mud balls don't appear at all?

I've played about 5 hours in the wilds and never seen a mud ball, yet I watched a youtuber entering the wilds and found there 4 mud balls in under 10 minutes. Are they bugged?

I didnt find anything either, but sleeping fixes it for me. so.. try sleeping
