Has anyone tried Xbox cross-play?

Looking to find some games to play with my friend who owns an xbox one. Has anyone tried playing xbox one users through the steam client and does it work well?

I didn't think this game had any multiplayer functionality; let alone cross-play

and if it would have multiplayer crossplay would be unlikeley. No games do that
