You might already know that now if you use the "T" key on your keyboard or the left trigger on a controller, then you'll be now in the gadget mode, where you can place down gadgets on build sites, and with it enabled you will be unable to do anything with your vacpack. Press that key/button again and the vacpack will be usable again.
Now, in slime science, the most important thing that you'll have to make will be the extractors. You probably saw in the fabricator and the builder's shop those pumps, drills and apiaries. You'll have to place them down somewhere, wait around a day, and you'll obtain slime science specific resources, which you'll have then to go to the refinery and deposit them into it. There are two tiers right now, with the novice one lasting for a single cycle, and the advanced one lasting for three cycles.
You'll need to keep now Pink Slimes if you haven't done that yet, since each extractor costs around 10 to 20 Pink Plorts to make (not counting other resources needed to build it). Once you place down an extractor, you can't move it, instead you can only destroy it.
Here's a tip about extractors: Experiment with putting them down in different zones in the world! You might get a special resource from them if you place them in specific places.
There are also other types of gadgets:
Utilities are gadgets that will help you in some way, for example the Hydro Turret will kill any tarr that comes close to it, and the Med Station will heal you quickly if you have some power left. There are also some bad things about utilities - after you place them down somewhere, they will need to install themselves here for 2 minutes until they will work.
Warp Tech are gadgets that will allow you to use the teleportation technology for various things.
There are two kinds of warp tech: teleporters, which work like the usual teleporters you see in the world, and warp depots, which will allow you to quickly transport items from one place to another (they can also work like silos). With that there is also a lot of problems with them - making each requires you to use up a rare resource, which will take a quite large amount of time to even get one from extractors. You can make only one pair of these gadgets for each color (e.g. you can't make more than two pink teleporters), and after you place them down, you can't move them, only destroy them. Because of that, you'll have to think where exactly will you put a warp tech gadget down unless you want to waste that precious rare resource that went into making it.
Decorations are just... decorations. They have pretty much no practical use (aside from trees allowing you to climb up higher). There is a lot of those available, which include slime lamps, and recreations of natural findings, such as those fire flowers from the Ash Isle. You can obtain them only through finding them in the treasure pods! They are an another new feature that was added to this update. To open the treasure pods (and there are three tiers of them), you'll have to buy the treasure cracker upgrades, which are quite hard to unlock. There's a guide on how to unlock those upgrades this.
There is around 26 treasure pods available to find, and if you have problems with finding them, then again, you can check out this guide.
Curios are toy gadgets which you can play around with. There are only two curios in the game right now - the #1 Slime Stage which you can use to show other slimes who is the best one, and the Slimeball Hoop, which will allow you to play a game of slimeball. The only problem with them is that they are very expensive.
I hope that this explains everything about slime science.
Also get the plorts you need to build those mining tools, especially pink plort.
So I build the machines at the lab, then I take them around the map & can place them down for mining & gather resources?
