You gonna search for the gold slime. Listen out for it's shimmering sound to know it's near. Never approach a gold slime, shoot a carrot at it from a far. It can appear anywhere anytime on the map. If you get lucky you might encounter it several times while exploring the map. Also gold slimes don't always need to be feed, some times they'll appear and plort. Also their plorts are untouched by any slimes, so keep your eyes peeled for the glowing plorts cause they can be anywhere in the environment including the water you can enter. You don't need to sleep, gold slimes will appear during the day or night, so you just gonna keep making laps of the map until you get all the plorts you need. Sorry that's all the advice I can give you, good luck on gold plort hunting!
Second, none of the nodes that would spawn a puddle slime can spawn a gold slime so your point on the water may be a bit misleading.
Now for a note more to myself. Get a few gingers, you can snare a gold gordo then pop it to force spawn 10(?) gold slimes, which you can proceed to feed. If you have sure shot you can get 3 per contact. If you do this in the grotto and pop it from a distance with food around the gordo already you can get about 3 contacts per slime
