Why I had quit playing Slime Rancher [Moss Blanket Hunter Gordo]
Yes, something happened that made me rage-quit several months ago. While this may be a bit of a rant, the main reason I'm writing this is because: (a) I hope someone can make a suggestion to avoid this scenario and (b) because I genuinely want to report something that - while it may not be a bug - it is incredibly frustrating to the point that I question whether or not this is by design.

Up until that certain point, I had quite enjoyed playing. This game is quite unlike most other games I've played. But that's a good thing as I tend to get a bit tired of a genre after too long and desire to switch to something different. Also, this game feels casual as it is not overly complex, so it is easy to pick back up.

It happened after I got to the Moss Blanket. I don't actually have a problem with the map or area itself. It's big, with a lot of hard-to-reach places. But that's not bad. However, I started to get a bit frustrated after realizing just how difficult it is to capture a pure Hunter slime. They are not only sneaky and fast, but they turn invisible and seem SUPER-ultra-rare to begin with.

Even though I desired to capture a whole pen-worth of pure Hunters, I could deal with that much. The reason being: I planned to feed the Hunter Largo and capture a bunch of them that way.

Well, I finally got to the forest zone of wild honey hunters of the Mtsy Pokrov. Even with lots of upgrades, it was rather tough to avoid getting ganged up on by the aggressive Saber hybrids there. But I could deal. The real problem was how the Hunter Largo that was my goal was located on top of a large fungus that seems absolutely impossible to reach.

After much trial and error, I figured out that I could - only barely - climb a steep wall / ledge on the opposite side of the nearby gorge (with a fallen log as a bridge). Getting on top of this ledge was very tricky. I had to stand in a certain spot (by the log bridge) to get enough initial height, then jetpack to a tree root that was halfway up the initial part of the ledge, wait for my jetpack to recharge, then try to jet up the rest of the way.

Like I said, this is very tricky and the ledge does not allow much leeway. As it is, I tend to slide off unless I hold the forward button down while my jetpack recharges. Once on top, I can barely manage to jetpack from there to the edge of the mushroom where the Hunter Largo is.

So, I managed to do this without drowning. I had a lot of chickens in my VacPack to feed the Largo and I would have lost them all.

I fed the Largo and got it to burst. And I managed to collect a bunch of the super-rare Hunter slimes! :steamhappy:

But then... I fell off of the mushroom. Ordinarily, this would not be a problem. I burst the Largo and collected the resulting slimes. However, I missed the key! :steamfacepalm:

So, I went back across the bridge and attempted to once again climb up this precarious and steep ledge to make another jump. Meanwhile, I'm having to avoid the hostile Saber slimes and deal with a Tarr outbreak.

Of course, as I'm attempting to climb up this precarious ledge... I make a misstep or miscalculation and fall. But my jetpack is exhausted and can't save me...

And... I respawn... With all of my precious, rare Hunter Slimes now lost... :steamsad:

Of course, I go collect some more chickens and make my way back to the far away Mtsy Pokrov. However, the Hunter Largo is gone! :steamsad:

I tried again, the next day... But the Hunter Largo is still gone! :steamsad:

In anger and frustration, I quit playing.

I mean: I can appreciate that the game doesn't make things too easy. A challenge is something to overcome. And while I have not explored further than Moss Blanket and Ancient Ruins yet, reaching the top of that Hunter Largo mushroom seemed an order-of-magnitude more difficult than anything else I'd encountered. This leads me to believe that I'm missing something - that I'm not doing this right. Either that, or this seems like a game oversight.

That was several months ago. I tried again today, but... The Hunter Largo is still gone. What's more, when I attempted to climb that ledge again (to see if I could still do it), I once again fell into the drink.

Q: Was that Hunter Largo a weird one one that only spawns once per playthrough?

Q: Isn't there an easier way to obtain Hunter slimes - even a little easier?

Q: Isn't there an easier way to reach the top of that d*$# freak'n mushroom with less chance of drowning and losing everything in one's inventory?

Every single gordo (largos are the hybrids) is a one-time thing. You can however snare more gordos with gadgets after you unlock the lab, including hunter gordos, and those gadgets can be placed all over the world, including your ranch, making it way easier to catch the hunter slimes once the gordo pops.

Don't remember having an issue with climbing that mushroom, although it's been a while since I last did it so I'd need to do it again to see.

You're mistaking "Gordo" slimes for "Largo" Slimes. Largos are a slime produced from a pure slime eating a plort of a different slime, creating a hybrid of the two.

Gordo's are a very large stationary "pure" slime that bursts after being fed a certain amount, drops various things and usually acts as the PROGRESSION THROUGH THE GAME. Any Gordos, outside of Party Gordos I believe, do not respawn.

Pure hunters are hard to get. Unfortunate, but this isn't a hard game to begin with. Maybe a couple hours of your time, if that, to get a full pen.

natural spawning gordos have always been once per save, though you can make gordo snares eventually that you can bait in order to get your own gordos on your ranch that you can more easily pop for easy access to slimes. as for getting up to the mushroom, it's really just a matter of knowing where you can land and how far you can reach with your current upgrades. also certainly helps to have food on hand to calm down the feral largos, or some taming bells placed around if you can make some. though i think i remember that specific area lacking in build spots. also while the gordo won't come back, can you confirm that the key is still there? if not, you can eventually also buy a key from the upgrade shop that otherwise would just go unused anyway.

Yeah, Gordo snares are the answer here. That the only achievement involving said snares is specifically to snare a Hunter Gordo was probably supposed to be a hint.

Ah, yeah... It's been a while since I played.

Then, perhaps I don't know of the best ways to spot and capture hunters? Maybe I'm looking for them in the wrong areas? Are they found throughout the Moss Blanket (aside from the Saber Largo area)?

My feeling is that you make it sound easier to catch pure Hunters than it actually is. I've already spent several hours exploring the Moss Blanket and I've only managed to capture 2 pure Hunters, with perhaps 1 Hunter that I spotted but got away.

they spawn throughout the whole moss blanket, though i think that feral area is exclusively largos? but they're more common at that one mushroom area with the lake and the big tree in the middle, and more common as well at night. gordo snares are the best way to go about it though. but you can't guarantee a hunter until you get the master snare. you'll need some hunter plorts to make them in the first place.

Assuming you remember, could you give me more of a hint of how to get on the mushroom? Isn't there a very specific place we need to stand on to get enough height to jump off of?

Currently, I have about 250 jetpack energy, after (as I recall) about 3 or 4 jetpack upgrades.

I can swear that dang mushroom feels 10 times more difficult to reach than any other Gordo spot or any other ledge that I've thus far tried! I was so certain that there was a trick to do it right - a trick I had yet to figure out. Is it really just a matter of getting more jetpack upgrades?

i can take a look, but it's always a good idea to have as many upgrades as you can.
Rustoration 2019 年 7 月 2 日 下午 7:27
if you jump on the short glowcones, get on the big log tunnel from there, and hop across to the roots of the big tree, you should be able to get onto the mushroom fairly easily.

Yeah, you can just get the blueprints for a Gordo Snare, but it has to be a more advanced one. Once you build a good enough one, put a Roostro on the gordo snare, and then sleep. In the morning, it will magically capture a Hunter Gordo, and it can be right in your ranch. You can easily pop it there, and easily get like 7 or 8 pure hunter slimes.

To get on the mushroom, just climb the rocks that act as a wall. They literally look like a ramp, you go on those and it is just super easy to get onto the mushroom. To be honest, I can't even see how you proceeded.

when i go into that area i pretty much rush in looking for the eyes and hope to get them before they bit on other things

and while the exit isnt that easy to find it is almost right at where the note is left. takes some exploring

i got really lucky today and found a pure hunter slime by pure chance, it just made itself visible to me while i was gathering chickens. Then shortly afterwords, i found another hunter slime inside a crate not too far away from the first.

shoved those two into a corral and used their plorts to make some gordo snares and after three or four pink gordos, managed to grab a hunter gorder and all it's sweet slimes.

I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned but there is an island in the Moss Blanket with glowing mushrooms on it that is known to have higher hunter slime spawn rates than in any other area in the Moss Blanket, and it isn't the place where you find the hunter gordo. The island has a name and I forget what it is but you could probably find it by looking through the wiki. If you find the island, I recommend putting a teleporter there so you have easier access to more hunter slimes.

I have a hunter gordo sitting in my Overgrowth area but that was for the achievement. And to make my Overgrowth look more interesting :steamhappy:
