Not entirely sure what is preventing it but its their given reason.
One gives every slime unique colors, one lets you make Gold Largos (they don't vanish), one fixes chicken coops, one lets you vac up otherwise unvacable items, one completely destroys the motion balancing of slimes (it's the funniest thing I've ever seen), one lets you make these Singularity Slimes which act as an instant teleporter and produce valuable plorts, and one is your run-of-the-mill item spawner.
There is a Mod Loader called SRML that you will need to run before you can install mods safely, so download that first.
The website is called the Mod Nexus.
You will need to create and verify a free account to download mods! [forums.nexusmods.com]
When you click to register a new account, you will be brought to a page with many paragraphs and square boxes you can click.
DO NOT TICK ANY BOXES ON THE FIRST PAGE.
They are Optional memberships that cost Real Money, and are NOT necessary to download mods or interact on the site.
Simply scroll to the bottom of this page, click "Create Account" and sign up as you would normally. (Username, Password, Email, etc.)
When you finish, you will get an email. Click the link it gives you, and you should be automatically signed in, and you can now download mods.
Do that, Download This, [www.nexusmods.com] then run it.
It will open up a command prompt that will search for the game on your computer, and install the Mod Loader's files to the game automatically, so you shouldn't need to do anything.
Once it is done,
close out of it,
go into the game files by right-clicking Slime Rancher in your Steam Library,
going to Properties,
and finding the button that says Browse Local Files.
Click that.
There should now be a folder called Mods.
Download any mods you want from the Mod Nexus site,
and Extract them using 7-Zip [www.7-zip.org] (you only need to download one version of it) by opening the zip file and dragging the contents of the zip folder out of it.
This will "Unzip" the files, allowing them to be read by the computer.
You can drag the UnZipped Files and Folders straight into the Mod folder if you want.
You CANNOT drag the Zipped Zip Folder or Zip File into the Mod Folder.
Your Computer will not be able to read them, as Zip Folders and Zip Files are tucked away from the rest of the computer's data.
Once you have completed all these steps, just start up Slime Rancher. If you have any DLC, and it says it is not installed when you load your file, Restart the Steam Client THEN run Slime Rancher. All should work fine after this.
Have fun!
